I love all the tards here who have never owned a VW. I have owned 3 and have been great. Granted they have all been diesels

You and I have a friend who is the sales manager for a VW dealership, call him and ask him what he thinks. He wouldn’t sell me a VW even if I wanted one

VW is most expensive vehicle to repair. Don’t do it.

PS - and for that reason insurance is very high for VW. We have a Passat and insurance is almost double my wife’s mercedes and the Passat is one year older. Crazy

Pss- def like the VW they’re nice and great mpg

Why?

Get a Rogue, CRV or a RAV-4 and not have the maintenance headaches.

I’ve got a 2013 Civic and 2013 Tiguan....both of my kids say there is no comparison, the VW is hands down the nicer of the two. The Tiguan blows away the civic in regards to quickness. As far as maintaining them, the VW requires an oil change every 10k Miles and that maintainence, at the dealer, is $100. The civic gets oil changes every 6k, which comes out close to $100/yr as well. I haven’t had any trouble with either vehicle and I paid the same amt for both of them. Both kids also agree that the Tiguan is refits girly vehicle, which I agree.

VW’s tend to blow away the road tests when CR or any entity does them. The fact that you haven’t had maintenance and reliability issues with the 2013 is fortunate but may not be the rules for that car. Here is what those CR surveys produced.

Do not buy a VW for your kid. Maintenance sucks. What else are you looking at?

VWs are a shitshow. my son worked as a mechanic for awhile at a dealership here and the horror stories he told me on tiguans throwing timing belts at 60k miles and the legendarily horrible touraegs was enough to convince me to never ever buy a VW as long as i live. they had tons of touraegs in various 'overflow lots' they would bring in for their 3rd or 4th time to fix all manner of recalls from 2-3 years back that they were still trying to get mechanically sound to sell as 'new'.

and dont get me started on the new plastic oil pans in the newer sedans. WHAT COULD POSSIBLY GO WRONG.

Go with a 2012-16 Honda CRV. Reliable, large amount of space for the segment, solid handling for a crossover, CVT engine that gets you going fast enough to merge onto the highway but won't blows the doors off enticing teenage joyriding.

No way. You want a gen2(.5) crv with that legendary k24 motor that has no timing belt and was built in Japan.

I bought one for my daughter for college with 150k miles and took it to the dealer to inspect and give me a list of 100 things I needed to do and they said "everything looks perfect". It's a damn good starter car.
