There was just something about getting that hot date on a friday night while your parents were out of town, and heading down to the local blockbuster to pick out the perfect set of movies for the night.

And for all you small town peeps, we had this instead of blockbuster

Walking into that amazing movie library, you would immediately head to see if that newest release was in stock. You had to make sure you got there before the weekend rush though because everyone was ready for some blockbuster and chill... especially on a rainy weekend.

And you couldnt check out without getting a tub of popcorn, the night was not complete without that tub of buttery awesomeness!

And remember.... Be kind, Please Rewind

pfft

my local movie rental store was inside a gas station and had every B horror movie from the 70s and 80s

it usually got new releases about 2 years after they were released

week long rentals were $1

This wasn't even that long ago. Is it worthy of a nostalgia thread?

Worked at a blockbuster for a while in college. Great times.

Want to know why you never got the new release? All of us employees had them out our houses for our chill sessions after work.

Blockbuster's deal where they sent you a movie in the mail was awesome. I lived in the fraternity house and would get a movie in the mail, then return it to the Blockbuster on State St. and get a free rental. I made the most out of that deal for sure.

Wasn't the prices like $5-6 for like a 3 day rental. Can't remember.

We didn't even bother with movies. Long ago, MTV used to play music videos 24hrs per day. The question "Wanna come in a watch videos?" was the secret code back then.

Like $2.13/ day. $5 for the weekend I think. It's been a while.

Damn kids these days and on demand streaming. They will never know the struggle of the search for THE PERFECT MOVIE. half the fun was driving to four different stores with your friends.

No, because there is nothing nostalgic about it. Making a 30 minute round trip to pick up a movie? Good riddance. Paying $4 for a new release and another $3 every day it is late? I have 1000x the content of any video store at my finger tips for a single dollar more per month. The movie you wanted is already checked out? Too fricking bad.

Oh, and I have big arse boxes of popcorn delivered by Amazon ever couple of months, with free 2 day shipping.

Greatest part of my childhood was on Friday on our way home pulling into the movie rental place(it was literally a 800sqft converted house on Hwy 16) and getting to choose 3 movies and 1 Nintendo game.
