I figured. I also have my own style, where I use all of my fingers, instead of mostly palms. I'm hoping with the music school in the area, there's some people that can teach things besides classical.

It can be learned. Though it just comes more natural to some then others. Because some people really have no natural rhythm. But you also have morons who give shitty advice, thinking they know it all.
My middle school band teacher told me I didn't have the natural coordination needed to play drums, and refused to let me play, so I quit band and never got training. But with a lot of practice and refeer, I became good enough that I've played Nola Jazz Fest twice. So he was obviously full of shite.

That's how I learned to play percussion. And I'm not even joking. It's also why I use my thumb for bass notes (except on congas), instead of my whole hands or palm like every other percussionist.
