Most things are biodegradable if you give them enough time.

Yes, it's littering. Quit both literally and figuratively being trashy.

Well, if you get right down to it, any time you go anywhere, it's almost, if not, impossible not to leave at least something behind that wasn't there before. Tiny fragments of your shoe sole wear off with each step, particulates in the air you breathe out can eventually settle onto the ground, dead skin cells, hair, sweat, clothing fibers, etc. all fall off your body constantly.

Without some sensible definition of what is trash and what is just normal and natural stuff that people leave behind them, littering laws make no sense. A fruit peel seems unlike a food wrapper or such. It's biodegradable in a very short time frame, unlike many artificial items that are thrown on the ground. It's as much like dirt as it is like a candy wrapper. Would dropping a handful of dirt on the ground be littering?

All depends on where you throw it.

Middle of someone's front lawn, bad. Littering? Meh

In a ditch, overgrown grass, behind a bush, side of highway in grass, perfectly fine.

Just wait and throw it away once you get to wherever you are going.

Good idea. Trash disappears from the planet. Much better than letting it turn into dirt.
