Thanks for the help. I have a pair of darker brown slip ons, which is why I wanted to go lighter on the oxfords.

That's what I thought when I saw the thread title..."brown with gray?"

It's been a transition over the past years. A medium to dark brown with gray is perfectly acceptable.

For sure. Ultimately depends on what you'll use it for and what you're comfortable with. The average guy, even in business or law, doesn't care about this stuff, so violating these "rules" doesn't mean much. I just like to know where they are, as I occasionally venture into arenas where people do take note of such things.

Not true at all, at least in my area. Dressing the part is huge in court, and everyone from the other attorneys to the judge look you up and down.

I think people just realized that black is boring and bland.

Shades of brown and burgandy are much more versatile, and interesting.

Depends on who you're litigating against. I have a mix of suburban and very urban practice against solos and big law attorneys. So I see all types.

Obviously if you go in truly sloppy or not coordinated, people will note. But even the average big law associate (and most partners) I am around probably wouldn't recognize that wearing slip on "dress" shoes to a depo is a faux pas.
