Anyone here have any experience with this?
So far we have a hole in the roof which we have covered temporarily with a tarp.
Lots of electronics are fried.
One of my a/c units went out.
Kitchen appliances are out.
Homeowners insurance claim has already been started.
I have started calling contractors to come give quotes. This is a headache I really did not need. 2016 can go frick itself.

Does blaming the year make you feel better? If so, that's fine.

Yep.
Start taking pictures of items fried. Make a spreadsheet with model and serial numbers of all items and prices to replace each. Will also need to know how old each item is...if you have receipts they wanted that from us. We also had to get an electrician over to verify items were fried and had to have it on an invoice from him saying it was caused by lightning strike.

Sorry. If in Shreveport I'd give you a good contractor. I've had TWO separate oak trees hit my house during storms.
If AC is out, go to a hotel. Ins will cover. We stayed in Residence Inn for 6 weeks in 2008 after the first tree.

Thank you. This is actually helpful advice.

So you still have power? Any breakers trip during the hit or now?

Can we get a pic of the hole in the roof? Sight unseen, a hole in the roof is usually an easy fix and not terribly expensive.

Lightning hit mine a few weeks ago and I had 4 tv's fried among many other things. I figured they were shot but they're fairly easy to fix yourself or it will run you $125 to $225 per tv if you bring it somewhere. The power supply board most likely took the damage.

Power surge fried my AC blower circuit panel - pretty sure anyway. Been having intense thunderstorms all summer here. Waiting on replacement part right now - seems to be a shortage of them at the moment.

Yes, we got hit by lightning the last week of June.
We lost a lot of electronics but worse it started a fire so we had contractors in the house for almost 4 weeks.
Document and photograph everything. You will need to document the make/model and serial numbers of all electronics. Was a PITA but insurance covered everything.
BTW - sorry to hear this!

Lightning has struck my house twice. Both times for months after the incident random things in the house would die due to being severely damaged by the strike but not dying right away.
Both times the air conditioner died 3 months after the strike. The fridge died a month after one and the freezer died a couple months after the other. Also several other things either died anywhere from 2 weeks to 9 months after each strike almost all of them when examined showing signs of having electrical damage.
Anyway good luck hope nothing of yours gets killed by the lightning.

One time I lost the main computer in a recording studio because of this.
That was a horrible day.

Keep checking anything that was plugged in -- doesn't have to be turned on at the time of the strike.

Lost power immediately from the strike. Entergy came out.
Was able to reset the breaker outside to restore power.
Inside random electrical outlets have stopped working. A breaker for some kitchen stuff was tripped and won't reset.

Yeah but on mine it just fried the HDMI inputs. I thought the tvs were totally busted. 1 was under Costco warranty, 1 old one had more than 1 hdmi board, so one I out survived, but the other 2 tvs are without hdmi
