I think most people besides college students and recent graduates would consider quitting their jobs to go backpacking in Europe fairly crazy.

See my sig quote. Maybe you're doing what you think you're supposed to instead of what you want to do.

Oh brother...

Before we had kids, I would get upset with her for falling asleep too early. Like when binge watching The Wire, and it's 1am on a Friday after a workday, and she's asleep. And I would say, "Can't you stay up late with me?" I was a moron and clueless.

Now 10pm is late. shite, I'm tired now. Kids wear your arse out.

there is nothing wrong with your life ... everyone finds life boring at times ... dictators, filthy rich, ditch diggers, etc all find life boring from time to time ... nothing wrong with wanting to shake things up ... no harm in ignoring it, no harm in trying it out ... you only live twice - once for yourself and once for your dreams ...

deal with it ... or shoot yourself ... or watch lsu play football (just kidding - not really, but a little) ...

I'm not particularly religious, but I have a relationship with God.

Man, all these awesome things some of you guys have and do...but still a sense of emptiness. Strange.

You need a passion. Making music, write a book, hunting, etc. Find what you enjoy and work to master it. The journey is the payoff.

I've found, in my ADD-like experience, that doing what I'm supposed to do is a lot easier than doing what I want to. What I mean by that is when I'm left to my own regards, I tend to be self-destructive. I've chosen a career path I'm interested in, but I wouldn't say I'll be itching to get to work every morning.

Sounds to me like you have never really accomplished anything on your own and probably been given most of your success. You have obviously never known what it's like to not have money which is why you can't appreciate a good job. Sounds like your a daddy's money pussy that just needs to man up and be thankful! Good luck.

Nice try

These are very common feelings and thoughts. This is the advice I will give you:

1) Set goals for yourself, and strive to achieve those goals through hard work. It can be argued that nothing is more satisfying than achieving your goals and become the man you want to be.

2) Stop being selfish and become a man for others. For some, true happiness comes from enhancing the lives of others.

3) Drop acid, go skydiving or try something crazy and new. Like you said, you're only on this planet once.

How often do you work? 5 days is pretty normal. Some go 6.

Don't dismiss God because of your experiences with religion. The two are not the same thing. Religion is a defense mechanism for man to calm his anxiety about the world we inhabit. Man sets up a group of guidelines to follow to make him feel better about being "good and right". God never created us to be religious. He created us to give Him our hearts.

I will give you an example. What if I told you that your girlfriend would follow your rules to the exact letter of the law. Call you a certain number of times a day, spend a certain number of hours with you a week, and give you gifts on a specified frequency. She would appear to others to be a "good girlfriend" correct? Not hardly because she is only doing it out of obligation.

What if instead you girlfriend was spontaneous and surprised you on a regular basis. What if she found out the name of your favorite bakery back home and ordered you sweets? What if she just wanted to spend time with you with no expectation of anything in return other than to be your best friend?

The second example would clearly be LOVE. True love is an action not a feeling. If I love God then I will love what He loves. He loves everyone as much as me. So I choose to serve others first and stop thinking of myself. The true secret to fulfillment is to stop being self centered. To stop being self righteous and stop being self focused. If you ever meet a truly biblically humble person you will remember them not because of their low self esteem or high self esteem. You will remember them for their lack of interest in themselves and their total intrest in you.

Forget self. Serve others.

Not sure what direction I want to go here, but everything is up for discussion.

I've been feeling pretty unmotivated, bored, lost, in a funk, whatever you want to call it, lately. I'm really just bored with life right now. I don't think I have a boring life though, and many people would be envious of how low stress my life is. I really can't complain about much, but here I am.

I have a beautiful girlfriend, an easy job that pays well, and some really great friends. What am I missing? I think I just hate normalcy. I hate routine. I feel like I just want me and my girlfriend to quit our jobs and go backpacking in Europe or something crazy.

Anyone here feel like this often? Anyone here content with the "normal" life of working 5 (or more) days a week, socializing on weekends, and maybe getting a couple vacations a year? I feel like there's just way more out there.

That's your problem, you're not getting your arse kicked enough. You need to find something that is tough as hell and requires a lot of hard work. Get off your arse and get moving.

i quit my job last summer and backpacked Vietnam -> Laos - Thailand - Bali, Indonesia - Cambodia - India (for as long as I could stand it) - Turkey - Greece - Israel - Jordan - Egypt - Morocco - Germany

do something like that man if you are going to quit your job. trust me, youll never be able to do it again. from my perspective from backpacking 5/7 continents, I'd say that Asia is the best in terms of fun, affordability, food and things to do. It's my favorite.

fwiw, i think most of Europe is waaayy too touristy and kind of sucks.

thats probably gonna make it worse. I know it has for me. After traveling around the world, the US just seems so boring. I am constantly after my wife to move out of the country, just havent been able to convince her.
