Lets discuss Christmas Cards

So as a kid we would get alot of Christmas cards every year. I remember my parents would tape them up down and across the trim going from our kitchen to the living room. So fast forward many years (Im 36 now), and Ive noticed that sending out Christmas cards doesnt seem to be as prevalent these days. Is it just me thinking that or do you still get a bunch of cards every year? Im mot talking about cards from companies to vendors. This is from family, friends, and those you know.
Also do you and the family take a family photo for your cards if you send them out or do you buy whatever cards you find, sign them and send them?
What are your thoughts?

Same reason no one gives a shite about highschool reunions anymore - social media.

It does seem less. Now we have facebook to stay in touch, where the xmas card was an easy way to keep up to date
also
1) if your friends have kids, you will get a lot more cards. Especially when they are little
B) If you want xmas cards, send xmas cards. When we send cards, we get a lot of extra cards the next year
III) If we do cards, we do a picture card assembling pictures from the year.

My friends send photo cards. I can't remember the last time I got a generic card. That may be part of it? If I don't do personalized cards, I don't send any at all.
It's definitely a "you get what you give" deal. If you don't send them, you won't get many.

About 5 minutes ago I put stamps on 3 envelopes containing Christmas cards.
The only thing significant about that is they will be the only ones I'll send this year.

We get probably 15 or so. I enjoy getting them and hang them in the kitchen.
I send out a few hand written ones to close relatives that I don't get to see during the holidays. No kids yet, so we don't do a family photo Christmas card mail out.

I have been trying to get my wife to stop sending them out every year. I think she send out 60 out and I think we have received 3 from friends and family. And I guarantee all 3 were like, oh look , lets send them one because they sent us one.

Photocard of kids, pets, spouse. If you don't have either you're excused.

Well yeah, that's what polite and respectful people do.

My wife sends out about 100 damn cards for every holiday. I don't know how much I have spent on professional pictures and card stock prints. But, it makes her happy I guess.

I think thats our main problem. We typically don't send them. We've been saying every year we would get a new family photo and use it for thr Christmas card. Maybe next year....

That's kind of a dumb reason.
We send out around 40 or so every year. We probably get around 25 or so every year from others.

If you send em you get em.
We only send them to family and close friends.
Definitely seems to be trending from store bought cards of old, to the photo card, and now the ones I cant stand, the bragging cards!
I swear, we have received cards with pics of the kids and their trophys, and this year a first!
" A New House for Christmas" card...The card is entirely a huge photo of the new house, with a small inset picture of their kids. It's great you got a new house, and I'd be fine with a new address announcement with a picture of the house, but A New House for Christmas Card is over he line bragging.

My wife and I have a list of people we are sending cards to. Maybe people don't like you?

We still send out Christmas cards. There is something different about getting a personal letter in the mail. We also send a year in review letter with the card so people we care about can know what we have been up to. I think either show the recipient that you care enough to spend time and thought on them. Especially those that you are separated from by distance and cannot see very often.
