My mother-in-law, whom I have a good relationship with, tries to help out when she comes over to the house. She'll wipe counters, do a load of laundry, and put on a load of dishes or unload dishes...whatever the cycle calls for. For like the 6th time now in the last 30 months or so, I have unloaded a load of dishes she's put in the dishwasher and she always puts steak knives in with the point out and I have stabbed my hand while grabbing the silverware to put up. She does it with the forks too but that doesn't matter at all really, but the steak knives hurt like a motherfricker. 3 times on my finger tips and 3 times on the webbing between my fingers.

Do I let it go because of the free help she offers? Do I say something? What says the OT?

You let it go because you are the dummy at fault here.

Learn how to unload a dishwasher with knives sticking up.

It isn't rocket science.

I would ask her not to leave the knives point up. More importantly, I would also open my fricking eyes when emptying the dishwasher.

She doesn't want your blades dulled any more than they already are, that's why they're pointed up.

Tell me this... Do you empty the dishwasher with your eyes closed? Even if it's only every five months or so, if your eyes aren't closed, you should be able to see those pointy blades sticking up. Don't stick your hand into them.
