I don't think it's as much Ft. Polk as it is Leesville. I was there a few weeks ago for a training rotation and the post itself is no different than hundreds of other posts and better than a few the Army maintains out of spite. Same crap in the PX, just a different name on the souvenir mugs. Leesville is a shitty town though, I can't think of one redeeming quality. Stayed in a hotel in Leesville because the on-post lodging was booked up, think a FEMA trailer would have been a better accommodation.

I was stationed there for my last 2 years in the Army, it wasn't terrible. My family was in Baton Rouge so I was coming home every weekend and for 13 of those months I was in Afghanistan, my experience is probably a little different than most.
During the welcome brief the commander said Ft Polk is the closest you can get to being stationed overseas
1. It's in the middle of nowhere
2. Not much to do locally, but plenty to do within 4 hours in any direction
3. The locals dont speak very good English

I agree. That place is a shite-hole. Had to go there a few weeks ago for some VA bullshite and it is completely miserable.

29 Palms might be one of the worst places on earth. Like I literally would rank some of the places in the Middle East I have been higher than 29 Palms.
Yucca Valley rivals California City as the ugliest towns in the US

Worst duty station for me. Ft. McClellan.
Best Ft. Monroe.

I think it says something when my Grandpa who was stationed at Polk during Korea and all my friends that who have been stationed there the past 10 years have similar stories about the place

I've been to #1,4,5,6,7 and 8 on that list and I would have put Fort Irwin as the worst of them.

My unit deployed out of Ft. Polk for OEF IV. Guys were asking if there was anyway to hurry up and get to Afghanistan.

Never was at 29 Palms but I did time at Edwards AFB. I'd add Rosamond to that list.

I was at a few of those.
Ft. Polk is def the worst, we were only there to use the range and that place sucked horribly.
29 Palms I didn't find that bad, but we were there for Mojave viper. I guess we were busy non stop so it wasnt that bad. I could see living there being bad though. We did get to go stay at Pendleton for a week or two each time and maybe that helped.

I was stationed at #8. Camp Lejeune wasn't that bad.
I see 29 Palms made the high end of the list, though! Lol
I am glad my favorite base was not ranked! MCLB Barstow!
