Leesville Ranked #1 worst town to be stationed in. (Ft Polk)

Why it's not great: The Army has some pretty terrible duty locations, but they were more unanimous than any other branch of the service on which post qualified as THE WORST. One soldier put it this way, “If God had to give the Earth an enema, he would attach the hose to Fort Polk.” Yeesh. Most blame the misery on the humidity, the bugs, or the fact that chain gangs are not at all uncommon in this swampy, far-from-everything town.
Most common escape: Lake Charles and Alexandria, both proper towns, are about an hour away. And New Orleans is a five-hour drive, so at least you can get a beignet for your troubles.
Surprise silver lining: In recent years, Fort Polk’s base amenities have undergone an impressive facelift. On-base housing is rumored to be nice and the post boasts a brand new commissary, PX, and a really good hospital.
So if you’re unimpressed by Louisiana, at least you can benefit from some military-issued, updated hospitality.

I really doubt if your parents will be surprised if you tell them. They may be a bit uncomfortable with your choice of public rest rooms, but acceptance will grow in time.

Fort Bliss isn't too bad. The restaurants, shopping and movie theater, etc they put on it is really nice. El Paso isn't too bad either

Leesville is a shite bag place, but at least the taxes are lower than the multiple fricking POS other towns I the immediate area.

My cousin & family were stationed at Minot, #2 on the list. The weather was harsh, but they got used to it. Of course, now they're stationed at Vandenberg-if not the best duty station in the AF, it mus be pretty damn close.

Been in since 2001 and my top goal is to continue to avoid Fort Polk.
Fort Bliss is actually a great station especially if you have a bike. Spent many weekends up in Ruidoso too.
Worst place I've been stationed would have to be Fort Sill.

I was always worried about getting orders to Polk or Drum. Never been to either but heard tons of horror stories. Luckily, I managed to only go places that I wanted.

29 Palms might be one of the worst places on earth. Like I literally would rank some of the places in the Middle East I have been higher than 29 Palms.

Went on a deployment on the USNS Comfort(hospital ship) with few guys stationed in Ft. Polk. I wore a LSU shirt when i went on liberty and they basically told me that Louisiana sucks. I told them not to judge it just by Leesville, but this is old news Ft Polk has and always will suck.

Have spent a lot of time around Fort Polk, and yes, it's pretty bad. But...
... if you're letting your 85-year old grandmother in her '79 Lincoln drive you to NOLA, then maybe you and Leesville deserve each other.
