You sure know a lot about him. Go talk to the dogs and see what they say about the situation. Check out their feelings and see if they say they are neglected.

My uncle used to do this with his coon dogs even though he had massive fenced in pasture. We lived next door so Id ride my 4wheeler over and let them out to chase me around and get some exercise. Finally convinced him to let them roam free when he got too old to take them hunting regularly. Dogs need to run around and play.

It's def not healthy for dogs to be shut up in a pen 24/7. He's gonna have some expensive vet bills.

So here's an article discussing how to treat "working dogs".

LINK

It does say they shouldn't be treated as pets and kenneled..... EXCEPT to be worked MULTIPLE times DAILY and that "Work related exercise/play" is also Ok.

Again, I gaurantee you this isn't happening in the case of these dogs. I pass in front of this house every day. I work from home, being my kids to school, pick them up from school, run errands at various times during the day, shuttle my kids to afternoon activities, weekend morning activities, etc...

I've never ONCE seen these dogs out of the kennel for work, play, exercise, etc...

That's not right man. And if you think it is, you shouldn't own a dog. (Or be allowed to have kids for that matter)

So you monitor this fricking guy 24/7? Do you not work? How do ou know he doesn’t pay someone to come work them out for an hour or so a day?

Btw I agree, if he is not working them out/hunting them it’s fricked up. But you have no way of knowing if he really is or isn’t.

I have a 16 month old blue ribbon British lab who only gets worked 1 hour a day or so. Now he is not in a kennel, but he does sit on a mat that I place him on at my office for 8-9 hours a day. He does not know what playing is. He is not allowed to run around. He is happy picking up bumpers and ducks. He is happy that I am happy with him being calm and silent and obedient no matter where I bring him in this world. If he knew what play was, I couldn’t bring him to a public place crowded with people, make him sit on a fricking orange dot, and know 100% when I came back he’d be on that fricking spot, whether I was gone 1 min or 8 hours. It’s called training.

Maybe talk to the guy find out about his training, ask if you could watch sometime

Ok I just read this last post. That is fricked.

Do they bark and shite all day? Or are they chilled out? If they are pretty shill then somehow someway they are getting run, because a GSP is straight up not gonna be chill in a kennel for 24/7 without being run.

One possibility is that all of the dogs don't get along, so he swaps different ones out in the backyard at different times.

I call bullshite.

Guess it depends on what you call "play." Being a part of everyday life does not negate training.

Many award winning schutzhund, obedience, and actual police/military working dogs live a fairly normal home life and still perform.

No, but with the frequency that I pass by this house (3-4 times/day, 5 or 6 days/wk at random intervals), the odds that I not once would have seen these dogs out of the kennel has got to be astronomical.

I also know he doesn't take the dogs hunting. He only duck hunts with a good friend of mine, and they use my buddy's dog when they go.

As to the question about their demeanor, I haven't been up close to them, but you can see the dogs pacing and circling in the kennels. He also has some kind of birds (chickens I think) in one of the pens kennel.

Burn the compound. Free the dogs. Piss on the ashes. Allow dogs to run free and raise a leg up on the ashes too.

But not close enough to where I would feel comfortable discussing it with him. It's probably not my business, but it just seems really shitty to me to treat dogs like that.

I’d discuss it with him anyway.

It's really not that hard. You have a few options.
1) mind your own business
2) sack up and go talk to him about it
3) have your friend ask him about it
4) call SPCA and have them look into if the animals are really being mistreated or if they're just not being treated to the standard YOU would like

Writing an anonymous letter is a bullshite move and will not likely yield the desired results. Plus, you're writing the letter only off of what you THINK you know, which might not be the actual situation.

That's pretty messed up. Next time you are over there you should casually ask him if they stay their cages 24/7.

He needs his redneck badge for having dogs and shite. It's one of the check off boxes he can take.
Sad, but true

That wouldn't surprise me if they were strictly used for hunting. I've seen that a bit. I don't know if it has to be done that way, but a few guys that I know who hunt with dogs, don't see them as pets. They're hunting dogs.
