Lawsuit filed to remove Confederate flag from Mississippi state flag

A federal judge said Tuesday that the Confederate emblem on the Mississippi flag is "anti-American" because it represents those who fought to leave the United States. But U.S. District Judge Carlton Reeves is not yet saying whether he will fully consider a lawsuit that seeks to eliminate the flag as a state symbol. Reeves heard more than three hours of arguments about motions in the lawsuit that Carlos Moore, an African-American attorney from Grenada, Mississippi, filed against the state. Moore is asking Reeves to declare the flag an unconstitutional relic of slavery
quote:
"I'm nobody's second-class citizen, and I don't appreciate being treated as such," Moore said. Reeves — who is also African-American — said he is considering two questions as he decides whether to give more thorough consideration to Moore's lawsuit or to dismiss it. One question is whether Moore has legal standing to sue the state, including whether Moore can prove he has been harmed because of the flag. The other question is whether flag design is an issue that can be decided by a court.
quote:
Mississippi has used the same flag since 1894, and its upper left corner has the Confederate battle emblem — a red field topped by a blue X dotted with 13 white starts. Voters chose to keep the banner in a 2001 referendum, and it's the last state flag in the nation to prominently feature the emblem.

I am not militant about keeping the flag or removing it, I just think we need to focus on higher priorities, like removing every shitty congressman in the country and actually getting important shite done before we act offended by fabric.

This might be the worst reporting I have ever read.

Clearly the flag being visible is causing these problems though. Once it comes down, expect everything to get better.

Whatever it takes to stop the hate. I'm just ready for people to stop killing each other.
Maybe this will finally stop all the gun violence in South and West Jackson.

Exactly this!

I don't really care one way or the other what the outcome of this is. But, why would the Confederate battle flag be put on a states official flag at all? It's not a nod to the loose association of states to which you used to belong. If that were the case, they would use the Stars and Bars.
It just doesn't make any sense to use the battle flag.

You could create a flag that has a picture of a white person being shot and declare it the official flag of the state and I still would not be offended. People need to get their fricking priorities straight. This is pussy shite.

I'm convinced these black political leaders are holding their own kind back in purpose
How many major crime cities aren't ran by democrats?

Mississippi voted a few years ago to keep this flag. Screw that judge.

The rights of the majority don't matter anymore. The democratic process doesn't matter anymore.

You're a PMH alum living in Jackson, right?
Why not start doing criminal defense? That business must be booming, as long as you accept payment up front.

I'm sure you're just kidding, but for those who don't know, "minority" doesn't mean "non-white".
Anyways, it's ridiculous that people are doing whatever it takes to avoid the real issues concerning race.
I want the flag changed, but for practical reasons.

So if a minority wished to fly the flag as is...what?

I wish that entire shitty state flew a battle flag so Ole Miss and Moo State would lose more recruits.
