I'm getting my books for this semester and I was wondering if I could buy the older edition of the textbook and be ok. I know a 2L who wants to sell me his books. The editions he has are only one edition older. I'm just trying to save a little money. TIA

If it is anything like a lot of other majors, the professor may be using homework or any other type of questions from a newer edition, so they might be different.

Yup. I did. Just pay attention in class or to a good outline as there is usually a couple of cases that are not in the older edition.

yep, just pay attention if the professor says "For those of you who don't have the most recent edition...the legislature recently changed this article to say....."

It is ok. The homework does not prepare you for the final. It does not make sense, but that is law school. Go to the library and find the old exams for your classes. Find a good Outline for the course. Study outline, practice taking old exams . There are commercial outlines available for some courses, but you need a home made outline for Louisiana courses.
An outline should be about 70 pages long.
Textbooks are for being prepared for class not studying for finals. Ask around till you understand this . I haven't explained it too well, but it is Very important !!!!

No matter what edition you get it is crucial to keycite every case that is assigned. If it has a little yellow or red flag, you can safely skip it because it's not good law.

I've never had anywhere close to a 70 page outline.

Yeah probably, you can always pull cases you don't have, although you may end up reading more than the excerpt in the book.

Get an outline early on and use that as a guide. Supplement the outline as necessary (preferably at regular intervals).

Law school is probably 2x as difficult for those who do outlines at the end (me) or who don't have access to good outlines someone else prepared (thankfully not me)

You don't have to cite cases except in federal civil procedure. Forget all other cases.

Find out which 2Ls/3Ls did well. Ask them for their outlines early. Don't do shite for three months. Enjoy a month of hell. Usually my routine.

Don't even worry about it. You already made the most terrible decision you could make.

Make friends with folks on journals (or be on journal), as they usually have outline banks, and usually comprise the top 50% of the class or so depending on school.
