I'm not mad. If I wanted 10 weeks off, I would have been a teacher. Instead I make almost triple what the average teacher makes. Enjoy your time off.

Sorry, I was led to believe that it's not really vacation. There are all sorts of lesson plans to regurgitate from the year before.

Don't forget the conferences that they must attend.

I dunno about 3x but they can easily make double... depends on where you teach, some places a new teacher starts out at 43k. That is good money for what amounts to 9 months of work.

Like I said, an operator makes 3 times what teachers do. Obviously it takes OT to do it but they can and do.

I love to hear how teachers have it so tough and how exhausted they are by the end of the year.

It must be a tough life.

Those are only the people who went into teaching for the summers off... same as any other job when someone goes into the profession because it is deemed "easy" or "profitable." people like to bitch, complain, and sue in 2015

Not really. It depends on what your base is and what plant you work at but it, or very close to it, is doable.

Friend who brags on FB has been doing it 10-11 years (so teacher in out parish would make 54k same span) and has a base of 90 I believe. I know with all the OT and what not he is up to 130-140 but he misses out on a lot of events. (Again. Not all positive just going by some conversations and him bItch in about taxes)

Teachers don't get paid for summer. They are on contracts for however long the school year is. They may have their checks split over 12 months so they continue to get a check during the summer, but they aren't being paid for their time off.

Too bad you can't afford to go on a nice vacation.

So he makes 2.6 times what a teach with the same years in makes. I just put 3 times as a rough estimate but as you can see I am not far off.

Ah, I was just counting base.... of you include OT and what not he works 3x longer as well.... but a teacher is only getting paid for 9 months (stretched to 12) vs 12 months. I normally work during the summer and make additional money.
