There's a place on Canal Blvd that will deliver it and pick it up.

It's really not that big of a space...and honestly only noticeable to me.

I've decided to bookmark this thread in the chance I decide to go 100% on my own.

I've already killed all the bullshite the previous owner grew/infest the front "yard." She also put a ton of pebble gravel to cover everything so I have to get all that out of the yard too. Its going to be a lot of "fun." Right now my front yard looks like a gravel parking lot mixed with death.

I assume now and the Spring are the best times to grow or what? I read that stuff but figured I'd ask here.

LSU does this all the time on campus with mulch. As long as there is no compaction of stuff around it, it's fine.

Mulch is extremely different from topsoil

Spring through fall is fine. We laid a lot of sod in winter, but yeah it doesn't root near as fast and is susceptible to rot/fungus due to the watering

So what is my deadline if I want to do it this year? November?

I was planning on waiting but may change my mind.

That is like predicting when winter will come. I would say you need 3-5 weeks of 70+ weather (highs).

You are probably dancing around the deadline now for establishing a lawn, but again you can lay it anytime.

Oh good I can put it off now. Thanks for the info. I'll be prepared come March/April.

My tip is don't use st aug. Aztec works really well in shady areas with roots as well. Also round up will not harm anything after 24 hours actually a lot less time then that. Generally you need lime in areas with roots the trees are taking much of the nutrients needed to grow grass.

Do i need to do anything special to get the grass to grow close to the base of the trees? Since i have several Yew trees in the yard almost the whole yard is within 5 or so feet of a tree.

What prep work needs to be done?

I have never done any prep work, but the times I have laid sod it was on dirt after a tree had been taken down

Yeah I said 3 or 4 days mainly because sometimes you don't kill everything the 1st time (because you missed it) but your statement is true.

When it comes to yardwork, I like the way you think!!!

Why even prep a yard? Just do what my dad used to do. Have sod delivered. Lay on top of whatever's already there. Water real good. Call Scott's to start treating the yard, and blame them when I doesn't look good.

Solutions other than digging it up and leveling it out and resodding?
add drainage pipe. or slowly add top soil there over a few months it will level out.
