KILLEEN - More than 300 violations were issued Thursday morning on Interstate 14 as a part of Killeen Police Department’s Special Traffic Enforcement Program (STEP).

From 8:00 a.m. until 1:30 p.m., Killeen Police initiated the speed detail where a police officer monitored the speeds of vehicles during the detail with a certified laser. The officer would radio the other police units of the violators . A total of 16 officers worked the detail. Officials said more officers could have been used due to the fact that several violators could not be stopped.

A total of 312 speeding violations and 21 non-hazardous violations; to include No Driver’s License, No Insurance, and Fail to Display Driver License issued.

quote:

Officers were able to conduct the detail due to a grant the department received from the Texas DPS to assist with overtime.

Just saw this on Facebook. I sometimes work in the area and I am glad KPD got overtime to pull over hazardous drivers. It's evident that this small stretch of US-190 now I-14 is plagued with terrible drivers as proven by the 312 speeding tickets issued in 5.5 hours! I hope the revenue gained from this enforcement can be put into increased police presence in the area.

If there were more troopers, they could easily have written 5000!

Good point double the Troopers to 32 and they could have doubled the tickets to 624! It states in the article several offenders got away due to the lack of officers.

I'm so confused. They needed a special grant to collect $300,000+ dollars in fines?

Those APC's are not going to pay for themselves. If they had been doing this more often they could have had some RPG's and the speeders that got away could have been fined also.

Well look at the brightside- with this money they can send their officers to a drug interdiction seminar where they learn all about how they can squeeze all the money they want to out of citizens they accuse of trafficking money that's supposedly used for drugs. Google desert snow or black asphalt for more details.

They don't even need a conviction or charges to use the citizens as ATMs.

Would like to know how many tickets the Natchitoches Parish Sheriff's Office gave out in the last week.

Trying to take the record away from Bunkie or Krotz Springs. Had 5 units on I-49 with one on an overpass working the radar.

Poor Texans were being profiled coming back from Mardi Gras.

Desert Snow has trained hundreds of police officers how to get drugs off the street. I guess that's terrible to you. Also Black asphalt is invaluable for networking reason to stop interstate drug transactions.

I went through Greenville SC a couple of weeks back. Cops everywhere trying to catch speeders. I went past 11 total going through the city on I-85. Laser jammer and V1 were going nuts.

I jammed three different cops shooting laser. Come to find out, laser jammers are illegal in SC

Like I already explained it's the former US-190 between Copperas Cove and Belton/I-35. You wouldn't understand though you're a leg.

First designated portion. Will eventually be expanded through Texas, into Louisiana and beyond going east. Will also go west and (I think) eventually run into the 10/20 split west of Pecos.

It's a loooooong way from completion... think 60 years+. But the more they start designating, more federal funding will be put to those designated areas to bring it up to interstate standards.
