I see this now and again. What are the OT's thoughts of parents allowing their children to call them by their first name?

Backhand their little punk asses I say

Disrespectful if talking directly to the parent

That's as trashy as anything.

It doesn't seem disrespectful...just odd. I can't imagine calling my folks by their names.

I used to call my moms name when we were at a birthday party or something and 20 women respond to the word mom, but that was just to get her attention and would usually get a slap from her

Modern parenting, and it sucks. Makes the child believe he is on the same level as the parent, like a buddy. Child will generally do whatever he wants as he gets older.

Ever since college, we called our parents by their first name. Would have got back handed doing it when younger. Dont know exactly why it switched but it did.

I've heard it on shows/movies, but I don't think I have ever witnessed anyone I know call their parents by their first name.

Okay if it's a step parent and they use Mr or Mrs.
Wrong if it's a birth parent that is not / was not an absentee parent. No matter the age.
If the parent is absentee the term "sperm donor" is acceptable.

Not my style but I couldn't care less about it.

So you graduated college and they stopped being your parents?

Sister-in-law did this crap with their kid. He's always called his parents, grandparents, and other relatives by their first names. He's now twelve, and a complete little shithead.

I still go with Pop and Mother.

No, still my parents and have the utmost respect. Actually do both really, but first name mostly. It just became not that big of a deal after we left home. Very traditional family also, and I am almost 40 so not a modern parenting thing.

Eh, I don't think even that is necessary for a step-parent. I've called my father's wife by her name since they got married, and I was 12 or 13.
