It's a federal regulation they have to block porn if they use one cent of federal funding for internet through Erate. CIPA compliance.
so you are saying that the OP may have ratted out his school for federal non-compliance?

IP address should not take that long to trace

this should be fun....

No, it's a best effort. They probably have something and the kids found a way around it.

We talk to thousands of districts/parishes throughout the year trying to sell our product and I have never met a district that didn't have one. Some may have crappy ones, but they're there. The main product I've seen and replaced in most districts in LA is really really crappy and pretty easy to beat out it's just cheap and people keep it.

Why assume that there is no firewall in place?

It's easy as frick to bypass a firewall.

When I was in high school I just ran a SOCKS proxy on my home computer, and connected to it whenever I wanted to bypass the school's firewall. Even if the IT administrator blocks a list of known public proxies, my home internet connection's IP address isn't gonna be blocked. It would take traffic analysis to figure out what's going on there.

It was more of a response to the post calling you out on making an account just to post this thread. Does that make you feel like an internet cool guy for doing so?

We beat that by IP block. You can browse by url only.

But that's kinda child's play compared to the TOR and VPN options kids are using today.

I owned a domain even back then, would have been trivial to set up a subdomain on it to resolve to my proxy server.

lolz no. i've kicked barracuda out of dozens of networks. not that it's a bad product. it's just not great on a large network like a schools. the problem is that a filter at a school needs to do more than block porn and streaming radio like at your workplaces. they have to take youtube, google, yahoo, and bing and get them to safesearch as well as block https traffic when it's "virtually" impossible to do.

i do sell their spam filter though. it's a good product.

Hire the kid on to use his firewall skipping skills to help fix the problem.

Isn't this what they do on NCIS?
