I'd block the number of that debt collector.

Just did that on my phone. Never had to block a number so honestly...didn't even realize this was an option on my phone Course...they could just call from another line but thanks for the suggestion

I changed my number earlier this year. Do it every so often. Especially after I had been running the streets or sleeping around. Still 504 #doe

I've toted my 479 Northwest Arkansas area code with me for stints in TX, NY, and now CA. I will never relinquish this number.

I still have a 985 number and haven't lived in Lafourche parish since 2001. I've had this number since 1999, and I'm not changing it.

What's the point?

As more and more people use Smartphones as their primary phone, people aren't even dialing numbers anymore, they're clicking names in a directory. I'm still paying a fee to support Atlanta's 911 system even though I've been back in LA for nearly 7 years. That's the only potential problem with people keeping their phone numbers.

Well it's also a big hassle for my work to call me if they have to contact my cell number. The hospital has to punch in this 10 digit long distance number anytime they call my cell. It's one of the reasons why I still have a landline.

It's 2014. Nobody expects you to have a local area code. I know people in NYC that have land lines next door to one another that have different area codes.

I don't keep it as some LA pride thing. I'm lazy and don't want the hassle of changing my number and having to notify everyone of the number change.

Plus I like my number, super easy to remember

All you really need to do is drop the words "Fair Debt Collection Practices Act" and they'll knock it off.

quote:

§ 806. Harassment or abuse [15 USC 1692d]
A debt collector may not engage in any conduct the natural consequence of which is to harass, oppress, or abuse any person in connection with the collection of a debt. Without limiting the general application of the foregoing, the following conduct is a violation of this section:

(1) The use or threat of use of violence or other criminal means to harm the physical person, reputation, or property of any person.

(2) The use of obscene or profane language or language the natural consequence of which is to abuse the hearer or reader.

(3) The publication of a list of consumers who allegedly refuse to pay debts, except to a consumer reporting agency or to persons meeting the requirements of section 603(f) or 604(3)1 of this Act.

(4) The advertisement for sale of any debt to coerce payment of the debt.

(5) Causing a telephone to ring or engaging any person in telephone conversation repeatedly or continuously with intent to annoy, abuse, or harass any person at the called number.

(6) Except as provided in section 804, the placement of telephone calls without meaningful disclosure of the caller's identity.
