Just in case you didn't know, Amazon officially sucks now.

Like millions of people, I got a couple of gift cards as presents this year. Went to use one for a few things for my truck. I have a Prime membership and always check the "Prime" box when I start my search for whatever I'm looking for. On Christmas Eve, I ordered 3 things. Got back home last night and check my Amazon account and noticed two of the three, were expected to be received on 1/3 so I cancelled them and looked for other things. Here's where it all goes off the cliff. Amazon only refunded me for one of the items. It took a few minutes just to find how to contact them, and I eventually started chatting with a real person after battling their stupid AI assistant. 30 minutes of "Give me a moment while I look into this", I finally get told I would receive the correct refund to the gift card in 3-5 days! I told the person that I also want to cancel the Prime membership. He said "Sure. one moment". As I'm waiting for his confirmation, I get an email saying my membership was cancelled effective 1/23/2023! All he did was turn off the auto-renew. I had a few more choice words, told him to stop it now and refund me according to their policy of dissatisfaction. Again he said "sure".
Went to Walmart's website and looked for the same items. They not only had them, but a couple of them were available to pick up at the store that is only 5 miles from my house. Free shipping on the others and the prices were cheaper. Moral of the story: Amazon isn't what it used to be, and is consistently getting worse.

Amazon stopped being worthwhile when they started charging taxes.

All of this is standard operating procedure. What are you so angry about?

Wanting china-made truck accessories is what caused this.

New to online buying i guess

If I can find what I need, I always buy things locally rather than Amazon…even if “locally” is Wal-Marks.
But Amazon has stopped Amazon deliveries in my rural area. Now, it’s FedEx, UPS, of our shitty USPS.

Yeah other than him not getting his stuff quickly I don’t really get his other complaints.

You were buying items that are sold out at Amazon from a 3rd party. There's a whole industry around selling things for more once they sell out at Amazon. Walmart's website works exactly the same way. They just happened not to be sold out.
You should always check local since the convenience of shopping locally will go away if everyone only buys from Amazon.

I am 3 buttons push away (on this computer in my pocket) from almost anything I could ever need for my life—will be on my doorstep in few days max.
Payment made, did not get out of my pajamas, no gasoline consumed / wear/tear on car, stress of bricks n mortar shopping, etc.
This sucks now?
Geezum.

quote:Nope. Expecting customer service that is at least as good as 99% of other retailers, caused this. I can buy a gift card right now, and poof the money is subtracted from my account. Amazon can't even credit money back to their own gift card in a timely manner.

This will always be Amazon’s Achilles heel until Amazon has a warehouse and delivery network in every metro area.
Walmart will always have an advantage on day to day items, but if you’re looking for something odd or out of the norm Amazon for the win.

Amazon doesn't charge taxes, they collect the tax for your state/local government.

Amazon’s amazing and your one situation does nothing to change it.

I not mad about how quickly the items would arrive. I'm getting jerked around over the refund for items that still haven't shipped. Two items cancelled. Only one was refunded. 3-5 days to "fix" this.
