How shitty are the next few weeks going to be? I am 27 and recently had some back pain and then broke out with a rash. Derm told me i have shingles and put me on an anti-viral. Not in a ton of pain but certainly not feeling great. Am i in for a shitty couple of weeks? Looking for some positive stories!

good luck. My MIL got them after her heart surgery and said shingles were worse than any part of her cardiac experience.

Buddy of mine said just the contact of his clothes on his skin was incredibly painful. Miserable

The virus that causes shingles is technically a herpes virus (type 3), so congrats.

Depends on how severe they are, but you are young so it should be much easier on you. My dad got shingles in his 40s and they were not that bad.

I hear different stories
A girl I worked with has them (mid 40s) and she said it is sooo painful, she cries
My dad (mid 60s) had them a few years ago and he felt nothing. Didn't even notice them

They suck. I got "the belt" on my lower back after taking the bar exam. Hurt like hell to sit in a chair. Had to take Zovirax to clear it up. Pharmacist gave me a sad luck when she filled the medicine.

SHingles can vary in intensity. My grandmother had them but did not have the burning pain that so many people complain about. I hope your experience is more like hers and not like the majority

If you ever had chicken pox you got herpes. Congrats to almost everyone.

fyi I had in on the left side of my scalp about 8 years ago. If you so much as touched a hair it hurt but it wasn't the end of the world.

A friend of mine got shingles recently. He sequestered himself in his house for a week.

He came out to the bar like a week after that. I tapped him on the shoulder and he said it felt like it was on fire. It surprised me.

He showed me the rash after that. It was absolutely horrific. He's still dealing with the after effects a month later

Got a quarter size ring behind my right shoulder sophomore year at LSU. Got Rx and a cream that eased the pain of having cloth touch it. I don't remember it lasting much longer than 3 days. Doctor at LSU clinic said it was due to stress from mid-term exams.
