I 100% agree. The problem I find is that I feel as if people's admiration extends past that ... to the anti-govt/anti-American/pro-state sentiments that are rampant Amongst the south..and amongst those that few like the govt impedes on their god given right to do as they want, when they want, to whoever they want, whenever they feel the need to do so.
It's a culture that honors anti-establishment rebels and treasonous bandits that threatened the very union of our 30+ states at the time. That's just not pro-America to be.

When we think about naval and commercial transport on the Miss River, we first think about North and South movement. But, the movement from West to East across the River was much more important during the Civil War, because that's how the resources from West of the River were carried to the areas East of the River.
There were no railroad bridges over the Miss River anywhere within areas in control of the Confederate States of America.

If I was a Union general, I'd let the confederates advance further northward then cut off their overextended supply lines and choose a battlefield where I held tactical advantage.
I do not believe the South had the resources to sustain an invasion of the North like what we saw with Sherman's March to the Sea.
Lee invaded the north because they were extremely low on supplies in the South. Pennsylvania was a way to re up the CSA army.

One page later and your presence causes me to retract my comment about this being an intellectual conversation. Good job.

Cinco de mayo was a major factor in the south losing the war. If you do not know anything about it I suggest doing some research.
