I never ate at his restaurants but I thought his show on pbs was bad. Guy grew up in the suburbs acting like he's a bayou Cajun when it suites him and a refined New Orleanian when he wanted that projection. He always seemed fake to me on tv.

Alon Shaya just bitch slapped and then curb stomped John Besh with that post. Former employees backed up Shaya's claim in the comments in his post too.

Someone in the reddit thread who was one of the girls in the article:

LINK

quote:

I'm one of the women in this article, and since word got out I've heard so many stories. It's a lot more than 25.
I'm heading to my current job and I hope my coworkers have read this. Especially the one who told me he likes the way I polish wine glasses and wanted to know if I use two or three fingers when I "polish" myself.

Edit: Apparently employees at Shaya were told if they shared the article on any social media there would be consequences.

quote:

It made me sick how John, Alon, and Octavio tried to defend themselves, and how Alon acted like he had absolutely no part in it. It was pretty much known that if you flirted (or did more) with Octavio you could get into management. I wanted to work my way up but other girls were doing things I wasn't willing to and were getting promoted before me.

I hope this article does something.

From another guy:

quote:

As a male, who is a former BRG employee (2 years), I believe every word of that story. Octavio is a fricking creep. All of those top chefs are douchey assholes who abuse their position of power over their employees. It's almost damn near impossible to bring anything to managers b/c the managers are all super bff with each other and the chefs. I'm sorry you had to put up with this and im glad you and so many others spoke out and are taking action with the EEOC.

Another:

quote:

Former longtime BRG employee here. Everyone has known about this stuff forever. Management is basically just reshuffled every time they do bad shite. This article was actually way less crazy than I expected. And it's way more than 25.

Interesting comments on the New Orleans subreddit before this story broke. Apparently some knew what was coming.

I hate to think it since I really love new Orleans food and restaurant culture, but we have heard these stories. Like all the celeb chef cokehead perverts, you know the one from Massachusetts.

My previous posts over the years mentioning this were always whacked

That mentioned what, that Emeril likes to do blow?

That’s a well known fact.

As for Besh, I feel bad. Rebecca, who used to run the ag extension farm, is working for him now. So, that all may be coming to an end. But, with as far as what’s going to happen to him as a result, I couldn’t care less. This guy is a scumbag. I hope he’s proud of himself. He had a lot of people depending on him, and all he does is think of himself. He needs to apologize to all these women publicly.

Apparently Shaya isn't immune to this. A lot of the same employees are pointing fingers at him being chummy with Octavio and the way things were done.

The reddit thread said they are all scumbags. I'm not surprised

We should take over when they all go down.

I can make hummus and soggy pizza.

The Reddit thread has so much "things will change" #metoo hope right now.

Can't wait for the reports of Nina Compton wining and dining her male staffers and talking like a sailor.

Reddit, besides the boobs, is such a try hard site to read.

I laughed at the "you're so brave" comment to some random post. You signed up to a forum that requires no verification, posted under an anonymous name, and basically said nothing but some broad it was terrible in the kitchen comment. The courage to do that

People are walking on eggshells around my work now. With as petty as some of the #metoo situations have become there is no doubt our place falls into that.

No excusing it, but it is the nature of what we do. Young girls trying to be "one of the guys" and then getting offended when they become "one of the guys."

You have to change the narrative.

Maybe if they weren’t worried about how some 20 year old flicks her bean, or nonsensical foolishness they’ve discussed in the suit, the hummus wouldn’t suck and the pizza would be half decent.

Don’t blame your problems on young impressionable women. Be a man and do what’s right. Even when no one is looking.
