I accepted a new job, put in my 2 weeks notice.

The company I'm leaving is fighting hard for me to stay a few extra weeks. I'm not really excited about that because I'm ready to start my new job.

Company I'm leaving has asked to contact my new hiring manager to ask about me staying longer. I said I was not comfortable with that.

They contacted them anyway, without my consent or knowledge.

Tell them to GFY. They just assured that you aren't staying any longer to help

Sounds like you don't work for a reputable company.

Call in sick. Pretty selfish action on their part.

two weeks notice is a courtesy. if they went behind your back like that even though you asked them not to, i'd say frick em and just leave.

Use up all of your PTO from now until the 2 weeks is up.
My wife's last boos pulled that crap with her when she quit. He wanted to keep her an extra 2 months. She gave her 2 weeks, used up her 2 weeks of PTO, and we went to the beach. He threatened not to pay her for her PTO; we had our lawyer send him a letter. She got paid.

1. they shouldn't know where you are going to work
2. that's nuts and I'd walk out the door today

Leave now. If they wanted you gone, someone would escort you out of the door with a box fully of your stuff. Its pretty unprofessional for them to even ask to speak with your next employer.

Agreed, but this may be inevitable with reference checking.

I would be highly pissed. I would talk to my new employer and tell them that if they will have me, I will start effective immediately.

They have also offered no incentive for me to stay on for longer.

True, but in some industries, and depending on your level of responsibility, it is expected that you give more notice.

When I put in my notice last summer I also handed my boss several pages listing projects I was in charge of, and who would be a good fit to take them over. He then practically ignored me for over a week before talking to me about the list a couple of days before I left.

I worked late nearly every day my last week trying to get people up to speed. It really had nothing to do with my company, but the level of responsibility I felt for my former clients. I still get calls and texts from time to time asking for help from old coworkers. That's always a nice boost in self esteem.
