This is where I am confused. Did she bring her personal doctor with her?

If this is true, they're all fricked.

quote:

Rivers’ doctor — who identified himself as an ear, nose and throat specialist — asked if he could use their instruments when the clinic’s doctor noticed "something" on Rivers’ vocal chords, according to the source.

“He asked and they let him,” the source said. “A huge no-no.”

Using this line of logic, if I had run her over with my car I shouldn't be charged with anything since she was old and would die anyway.

Fwiw, age is factored in for insurance payouts and the such.

What does that have to do with the conversation?

My comments are just speculation based on what we have heard in the media. I wasnt there when this happened (she would be alive right now if I was) so dont take my comments as what actually happened.

I had to google her when I saw her name on the news. Yes, I recognized her, but I have no idea who she was or what she did.

That doesn't make you cool, it makes you somewhat oblivious.

I understand. I was agreeing with your speculation, since that is all we have. My speculation is the staff had problems with ABC's and that is pathetic. I have seen it happen on the OR, anesthetic reversal given resulting in profound bradycardia and arrest. Anesthetist froze. CPR had to be started by RN observing as part of orientation to work in PACU. Fortunately patient survived.

The first obvious question:

This ENT doctor that accompanied Rivers and performed this surgical procedure: did he have privileges at this clinic?

I cannot just walk in to a clinic and start treating patients especially if I have to use their surgical equipment that I am not familiar with...

That is malpractice for both the doctor and the clinic.

Agreed, assuming the story has validity. The article does say that the health department is investigating. Interested to see how it plays out.

sounds like the battle btw doctors and hospitals over these surgery centers. Who gets to make the money off of the surgeries?

The problem is not the procedure, but the medical staff's inability to manage a crisis. There is a procedure known as a tracheotomy. For some reason the staff did not do their job very well.

my comment was in response to the quote in the OP's article stating
quote:

Such a procedure is not supposed to be performed outside of a hospital, according to medical experts.
These "medical experts" that were quoted are incorrect. This procedure is frequently done outside of a hospital.

i'm not commenting as to whether or not this was malpractice. i don't think any of us know enough of the specifics--it's all speculation at this point.

Not sure how it would work when, as is alleged here, an ear nose and throat doctor in her entourage butts in and conducts a surprise biopsy while she is having an endoscopy under the supervision of a different medical personnel.

And in determining economic damages like future earnings in a wrongful death claim. I bet Joan was still pulling in some decent money.
