How is he a legend? He is a former english teacher turned sports anchor who happens to call saints games. I don't get how he is a legend. He probably sucked as a teacher

I mean he created the Muppets, that's pretty legendary.

Yeah. The muppets are a big deal even if they just fired Kermit.

And is now the Chancellor at Northwestern State

All that's required to be a "broadcasting legend" is to do the job for multiple decades. Then, eventually, people begin calling you that.
Jim Henderson actually has talent, though, so I don't mind it.
Sure, it takes a lot of determination to do the same damn thing over and over for 50 years.
But, to be honest, the standards are pretty low in broadcasting to be a "legend."

He gave a speech at a local chamber of commerce meeting or something like that about his career. It was actually pretty interesting. I don't remember shite about it, except that going in I was very much not that interested. Not that I had a negative view, I just didn't care. Then afterwards, thought more of him I guess.

Are people like Keith Jackson,Pat Summerall,Howard Cosell,Dick Enberg,Bob Costas considered legends?

Jim Henderson and Archie Manning were my favorite booth team of all time. They blended perfectly -- Jim's kinda smart-alecky East Coast college man with Archie's good ole boy.
Henderson is an excellent PBP man. It's not just because he's local or been around a long time. He's just good.

Yes. They are.
Those are all network guys though. They have/had huge audiences, so that title is actually a little more legitimate.
I'm talking mainly about local level guys, many of whom were hired in the 70s and 80s and have just stayed on the air in one market.
There are some guys who were hired in the 50s and 60s that started with a station. Guys like Buckskin Bill or Hap Glaudi. Those guys were pioneers that helped create the systems that later hires enjoyed.
Those guys, like Henderson, Garland Robinette, Eric Paulson, George Sells, etc... aren't pioneers as much as dudes who stayed in one market forever and they are well-known there. Calling those guys legends... that's questionable to me.

Jim Henderson is probably the top broadcaster/ newsman the New Orleans market ever had... he just happened to do sports.
I love his quippy dry sense of humor though.

Keith Jackson is a legend. He hit 3 home runs in game 6 of the World Series.
