Governor John Bel Edwards pledged to reopen a Mid City Baton Rouge emergency room during the state's first-ever statewide health summit.
quote:
Gov. Edwards then addressed those concerns in saying that the Medicaid expansion to take effect on July 1 could open the shuttered doors of the Mid City emergency room. “I have asked them as they do that to explore the possibility of reopening that emergency room at the MidCity campus. I believe that the Medicaid expansion affords them an opportunity to do that," he said. "They will have many fewer people accessing services in an emergency room without reimbursement associated with that, so I think the business model is different now. I’ve asked them to look at that, and certainly if that doesn’t happen we’re going to find some other way, but in the short-term that’s the best avenue that we have.”

Let me translate our grand leaders statement for you:
"I will get folks who already pay for health care to pay for this with some sort of fee or increase in taxes, don't sweat it and just keep voting Democrat."

Good.
It's crazy with all the people living downtown, in Mid City and North Baton Rouge that there's no ER in the area. I'm no health care expert, but I bet it can be done without jacking up people's taxes. You've got the Medicaid expansion, you've got plenty of working people with insurance in those areas. That gives you some funding sources.
Ochsner or some other private operator ought to be able to make that work.

Who is gonna pay for it?
Posted on 3/29/16 at 5:16 pm to Kramer26
Everyone other than the residents of North Baton Rouge.

Didn't he just cut like 40mil from the health and hospital budget?

The problem for the last ER was all
The non-emergent patients w no money clogging up the ER. They need an urgent care clinic to deal with all the little stuff, then send the real emergencies to LOTL.
Should have never closed the Earl, but Jindal was trying to look good nationally.

You mean that same entitlement that's going to really crater the budget soon after the feds stop paying their share and this poor as frick state is going to get bent over for it and it will never downsize at all and never stay at or under budget?
Lol.

Enjoy it while you can.
His 4 years will be up and he's getting his arse kicked off the 4th floor by the republican candidate.
Hell, even Vitter or Jindal could be plausible matchups for him the more he acts like the liberal tax and spend democrat he really is.

BRG will not open it back up to lose money like they were doing. Half the equipment is now at Bluebonnet campus.

You know, I probably won't agree with the means by which it is done, but BR General Mid City's ER is desperately needed.

They have these. They don't go to them.
The issue is the fact that ER's can't turn people away for "non-emergencies". That's all that is needed. Just tell people "No, that's not an emergency. Take the _____ Bus to the urgent care clinic. NEXT!!!"

Well most intelligent voters in this state knew that. Too bad we are outnumbered by the freeloaders.

Better paying a little bit to keep that element in the area they've destroyed rather than having them come farther into the city and spreading their societal cancer, right?
Wasn't that what the st. George thing was about?
