Late April and early May always has higher severe weather probability in NO. Thousands of people undoubtedly attended this past Saturday with the primary intention of watching Stevie Wonder only to have his performance cancelled due to inclement weather. Rainy conditions probably cut the attendance at the Neil Young performance by at least a half. When the weather isn't rainy at Jazz Fest it is often hot and humid making it unpleasant for viewing the late afternoon "main attraction" outdoor performances.
If the Fairgrounds won't adjust its horse racing schedule to allow for an earlier festival then the Jazz Fest producers should move to a location in City Park. There are countless acres available in City Park to build a permanent site.
The recent last minute cancellations due to weather issues would be much less likely with an early April Jazz Fest and the overall experience would be more pleasant with milder weather conditions.

Also, the Zurich golf tournament was a complete failure.

That needs to be moved too.

In summary, the last weekend in April either needs to be moved to the last weekend in March or the first weekend in May, but it sucks as it is.

Yep, scheduling a big outdoor event during that time of year is asking for it to be rained on.

I have always wondered why they didn't do it earlier in the year. But, bad weather and all, with the crowds they are getting there would be no reason to move it. Only way they would move it would be if attendance started to fall and they were missing out money wise.

Let's just reschedule the rain. Makes more sense.

It's been a long time since JF had these kind of issues. I wouldn't change a damn thing

It seems it rains every year actually. I mean, I get it if you mean its not as severe. But it always turns more into a mudfest

Guess you missed Hogs for the Cause this year. It was a disaster and City Park is even more of a shite show than the Fairgrounds when it rains.

I think it should be moved just so it isn't going on the same weekend as Zurich. Move whichever is easier. The weather is going to be an issue from time to time no matter what week it is. I will say it always seems to be hot as hell or wet and muddy. Can't remember the last time the weather was nice although it started out nice this year.

I would prefer this as well. Just way too much crap goin on the last week of april/first week of may. Final exams make sure I never get to go even when I can afford it.

Fairgrounds CANT adjust it's racing schedule. The prep for the ky derby al already almost too far out at 6 weeks. La derby weekend is really the only weekend at the track that gets any attention nationally.

It always rains at least one weekend if JF. It's part of going to it. Wading around in the flooded infield in water filled with horse shite is part of the fun right?

It's a racetrack with no parking around it. It's a horrible location. Move it to city park or somewhere else in the city.

Mardi Gras needs to be held in late March. It's too cold when Mardi Gras is early like this year.
