Has anyone heard of this? I stumbled on it this morning. Jane Elliott has an exercise where she takes about 20-30 people and divides them up based on eye color. She basically pits the groups against each other to show how racism exists.

I watched a long 47:00 minute video on YouTube this morning. To me, it's a bunch of bullshite. I'm a 32 year old white male and don't deal with racism. I work with black guys who I have great relationships with. I'm friends with black guys who I have great relationships with. I really think the younger generations don't have the same racial views that the older generations have.

Anyway, I don't want to ramble too much. Just thought the exercise was ridiculous but it could be because of my age.

Here's the video entitled "How racist are you?"

I could be wrong but it appeared as though she made the brown eyed people to be blacks/asians/indian/etc.

Of course the blue eyed people were the privileged white people.

Sociological experiment that many elementary teachers attempt to reciprocate. Usually poorly. We did this in grade school.

Need to get some cliffs on that

What I've learned over the years is that it's okay to be racist against everyone but blacks. You also must say they are from Africa

Eta: I'd love to go head to head with that lady. Seems like it would be fun to break her

Well original exercise, which gained her the notoriety was done with primary students; I think their responses were less surprising given their developmental level.

But there is a ton of reseach on in-group and out-group behavior and it surprising how irrational people view groups. LINK

One of my son's teachers tried to "teach" a lesson in stereotypes to the students by segregating them out and having them brainstorm racial stereotypes. It was so pathetically like that episode from "The Office." She had all the white kids go to one corner and all the black kids go to another corner. There were a small number of Hispanic and Asian kids left over, so the teacher sent the Hispanic kids to the black corner and the Asian kids to the white corner.

I guess there were no mixed-race kids in the class? ("Can I just stand in the middle of the room?" )

I did not watch all of it, but what I saw did not prove racism.

What it proved, to me, was how easy it is to divide and conquer through totalitarianism. She was the Supreme Ruler in that experiment. People who went along did so in order to stay out of trouble, not because they felt 'superior' to another group.

Well its a well known fact blue eyed people are superior in every imaginable way.

Some silly academic exercise cant change that.
