My father was in the Army as a paratrooper and fought all over the Phillipines and the South Pacific and had several gunshot wounds to show for it. He passed away last year at 87 but he read this message board for a few years. I always thought that was funny talking to him and he'd mention some dipshit thread from the OT.

I'm typing this with his Colt 45 in my lap that he carried his whole career oversees. I can smell him on the gun.

An old man who was a control systems expert came to our facility to oversee some systems that were being rolled over and we were having issues. He had the marine tat on his arm. They tell me what a great guy he was fun and energetic.....until the day a Korean engineer kid walked in the shop. They said he got mad as hell and walked up to him and said something like "you a fricking jap?"....the kid was nervous as shite and replied that he was Korean. The old man relaxed but they said you could tell his blood was boiling over the possibility the kid was Japanese. They tell me it was tense as all hell.

Thanks for the service sir

That speaks volumes about that dude's emotional intelligence to dress down a young kid like that. There is no excuse for that kind of ignorance no matter what kind of military service you put in.

My grandma told me about a young man she'd been dating back in the 1940s. He was one of the first to go to Iwo Jima. She never heard from him again. I've always meant to search his name.

You sir, have NO PLACE making that statement. Emotions run high when you get shot at and your country gets sucker punched. T

The United States of America was not sucker punched by Korea and Koreans were treated worse than Americans by Japan and still are. My father was shot several times and was sitting on a troop transport to be on the first wave of the invasion of Japan which would have been certain death until they dropped Fat Man and Little Boy. He was no lover of Japan for many years as I was growing up but times change and so did he. He never wholesale equated Asian people as Japs. He was careful because he was educated and knew the difference. He died last year with a great granddaughter who is half Japanese and half American and living in Tokyo. And he loved her as much as anyone in his family.

That man had every place to make that statement.
