It's just strange how he has managed to become relevant again. He's been hitting up all the big news outlets as well
Not really. There is an entire generation of kids that grew up watching him. Those people are now the ones helping to run media/internet outlets/news sources and such. Everyone from 25-40 probably knows who he is. It's no coincidence that he's now on major news outlets that have target markets that include these individuals.

His show was popular when a lot of millennials were children. The millennials associate science with him and see him as an authority figure on the subject, even though his credentials aren't incredibly impressive. Now that millennials are becoming adults it gives the news credibility to use someone that the millennials recognize as an authority.
In a way, it has to do with millennials being stupid, but it isn't just a simply millennials are stupid thing. It's a people in general are stupid thing. There are probably examples of this mechanism being used just as effectively on past generations.

I'm not sure anyone looks to Nye as an end all authority figure, but he can relate basic science to the masses.
that is impressive for an engineer

A range that encompasses both millennials and their own generation. Even still, people in their 20s aren't known to be watching a ton of CNN.

You're an idiot if you think that millennials are the reason this dead horse has been beaten over and over during the last two weeks.
Apparently, if you have an issue with something there are only two people to blame. Obama and millenials.

Yeah, I guess you probably don't need a ph.d in physics or biology to explain the air pressure of a football or the basics of evolution. You just have to have the basic knowledge and charisma on tv.

Relate it like a celebrity chef. Very few are phenomenal chefs, but they have charisma.

he hangs out with black science guy, so he's not dumb.

Someone else explained the reason behind this phenomenon succinctly a few days ago, but basically it boils down to millenials being stupid assholes.
That was me. This was my post:

His resurgence from being a kid's tv show host, along with the rise of Neil De Grasse Tyson, is emblematic of a generational trend of people pretending to be nerds because it makes them sound cool. Lots of tool millennials out there who sit on reddit all day and think science can be summed up through some memes and AMAs with Tyson. That is why Nye is still "relevant."
frick everyone who comes at me. I'm right. OP, hang in there man.

So Bill Nye is wrong in his explanations?
Posted on 2/1/15 at 11:24 am to Lou Pai
Honestly, I would like to hear what Pat Robertson has to say about deflategate to keep things fair and balanced.
And damn those Boomers for putting -gate at the end of every scandal since Watergate.

I do find that mildly annoying in a pet peeve sort of way. I guess it's just a measure of how big Watergate was that "-gate" has become the go to word to designate something as a scandal.

And while he isn't a Hawkings or anything, it's not like he just got an engineering degree and then went into the show biz.
He has at least some technical accomplishments to his name.

You may laugh, but there may be some implications about the NFL in the Book of Revelations. Pat is supposed to talk about it tomorrow night.
