depends on what you want

a brand new, decent intro bike is probably going to run you at least $500

you can keep an eye out for some on sale

Here in the greatest city in America we have off-road, paved bike paths connecting the entire city

The greenways in Cary, NC were awesome. Three major parks all connected with virtually no shared roads w vehicles. You could ride for hours and never have to look out for cars

It is now that time of year again where we, as Louisianians, can now hop back on our bikes and be true stewards to our planet and commute to work on our bikes.

It truly is a glorious feeling passing by all those angry, bitter people, sitting in their cars, as we bike commuters feel the glorious rays of sunshine and cool fall air in our faces.

So hop on that fixie with bullhorns or that vintage Bianchi and enjoy this most wonderful time of the year!

Hope to see all you guys out on the city streets!
I wish I could commute on my bike. Baton Rouge's excellent urban planning has made that next to impossible.

On of the main issues I have with BR roads. It's only about 7 miles to get from my house to downtown, but there is no safe way to get there on a bike.

It's what I love about The Woodlands. They are already very friendly to cyclists, runners, pedestrians, general outdoor activities. But, they are still working to make it better. They are working on improving roads for cyclists since they know bikes can't ride on the "bike paths" if you go more than 10 mph.

All depends on what you think is "decent". I just sold my first bike for $400. Not a terrible bike at all for someone just wanting to start riding. I'd say new is going to be 500-700 if you want something to do 30+ miles on regularly.

If you want carbon (lighter, stiffer, smoother ride), then you're looking at 1500 bucks. But there is definitely a difference. Even your good aluminum bikes will cost that much. Then it just gets more and more stupid expensive.

The bike I pictured shares some parts with another bike (wheels and powermeter which are expensive). So I don't consider that I paid the full amount for just that bike since it's distributed over multiple bikes. But when I'm out on a ride, I can have 5k worth of bike under me depending on what wheels or pedals I take. And serious riders might only consider that decent. I however think it's more than my abilities will ever need.

Hospital I work at is a 30 minute drive from me and located in a very rough part of PHX. And I work nights. I like living so no biking to work for me.

I do love riding my bike though. Have a hydrid that I ride whenever I can on the numerous paved biking paths here. Don't want to ride on the roads cause I just don't trust people. I don't want to be flattened by a soccer mom in an oversized SUV texting while driving.

Man, 3 years ago, I would have told you that was insane. I used to fish and hunt. Moved away from my fishing ground and sold my boat. Found another hobby in cycling. I still haven't spent close to what I spent on fishing, so there's that. But it becomes addictive if you like it. I don't "need" a lot of the stuff, but when I'm bored, I research. When I research, I find deals. When I find deals, I buy shite. I saved almost 3k buying all the stuff on that bike by reading and coming across deals.
