Actually, I've got a serious question -- what's the cost of living like in Whitefish?
That's one of the places on my list to look at for retirement in a few years (I like to ski).
How much would I need in income to be a happy retiree there?

Get a large SUV and drive the shite out of it until it causes enough global warming to melt the snow.

Dealt with that winter in Boston two years ago where nearly every record was shattered. Just do what everyone here does - stay inside, watch Netflix, and develop a drinking problem.

Do you have to plug in your car/truck/whatever you drive to keep the engine block from freezing?

buy duo fold long underwear. a few pair.
get a down jacket that covers your arse in the back. jackets will be rated.
go below 15 zero.
a ski mask
mittens that are good below zero.
"hiking boots" that are good way below zero.

your record low in October is 0.
record lows in winter months are 20 below and worse.
you be sure to get the gear I recommended.
the average low in January is 13. You are going to see lots of 4 degree mornings.
the snow makes a crunchy sound when its down into the single digits.
I guess you will get a deep wet snow or two in Oct or Nov and April to come up to your 73".
the tension comes when you get a below freezing morning in the middle of summer. It snowed the day I reported for the draft. it was early august.
You'll want to plan on covering your gardens.
Hmmm. You may want to consider a nice set of chains if you don't have all wheel drive.
You might want to arrange to car pool. If you and your vehicle are not used to it, driving in snow can be an adventure.

Just curious as to what kind of work you do in Whitefish, Montana.

The long underwear I suggested doesn't have any cotton like yours.
Cotton is a no no. It makes you cold when wet or damp and in freezing temperatures who wants to be cold?

Housing here is 160, overall cost of living 137. Average cost of living in Whitefish is 116. It's considerably less expensive than Juneau.
