The city has the second-highest cost of living in the state and, according to a new study by Loyola University, it is contributing to peoples' struggle to make ends meet.........

Bigger cities have a higher cost of living.

ends meet
When I was little, I thought the saying was, "End's Meat" and I thought it had something to do with 'just enough meat to get by'... I knew what it meant contextually, but was surprised to see it written out.

Define this:

quote:

the amount of money needed to ensure families have basic essentials and live a modest but dignified life.

quote:

New Orleans and Lafayette were ranked the first and second areas with the highest cost of living.

I don't think 55k is unreasonable for a two income home

I found the article interesting because of what the study blamed and the proposed solutions - IMO - we are slowly becoming more reliant on the government to keep a standard of living that is "dignified" - "who" not "what" defines this "dignified life" is the most important question. We are the proverbial frog in the water and pinko ideals are beginning to boil.

quote:

The study blames low wages, hurricanes, and inadequate social programs for reasons why people struggle. It suggests increasing the minimum wage to $10.10, more government-based social programs, and expanding services like food stamps and child care assistance networks. More affordable housing options and transportation investments would also help, researchers added.

I think they mean quite the opposite. Enough money to comfortably get by.
