I've been back in school for the last 3 years - and I'm 41. I haven't had a semester yet where I haven't had to straighten out a professor or fellow student. My wife says I'm going to graduate cum laude arsehole.

So, you went MIA on the project and then cursed at your partner. I don't know if that warrants a review board, but it definitely makes you the a-hole. Just so you know.

When you're on their field you have to play by their rules. I knew that way back in the late 1980s and early 1990s.

you flunk aikido.

you are now at risk.

learn the phrase non-zero risk. you aim for that, every time.

pick your fights. this one is really stupid. you need to look at risk management here. "bring on the women, I can beat two of them with one hand behind my back" is the opposite of what you should be about.

you can be destroyed. you can be marked. you can end up without a masters.
cool your jets.

say, " I am sorry. I thought I was being funny.
I am sorry.
allow response.

gee, I am sorry you feel that way.
blah blah blah.

I am sorry.

rinse repeat, with variations. and never do it again. keep your head down.
get the degree. get a letter of recommendation.

Look. It was a mistake in retrospect but it felt great telling one of these self righteous assholes one small slight thing that made them mad. I have been having a shite eating grin with these types since I've moved here.

It felt good. I'll deal with and accept the fallout, which I doubt there will be any.

I am in one of the last great untamed wildernesses of a workplace where I say "frick you", you say "frick you too, a-hole" and nothing happens at all. No sensitivity training, no meeting where everyone jerks each other off, no apologies, no nothing.

It goes to fist city sometimes, we break it up, tell the parties involved to knock it off and that's it.

In saying this, I'm probably not the person to take advice from here but don't make apologizing for something you aren't sorry for a habit. If the review board starts trying to spoon feed you a mouth full of bullshite, tell them to get fricked and don't have any regrets about saying it.

I mean, ask yourself if this would be acceptable in the professional world? It wouldn't.

fwiw, let this be a lesson to you....don't ever, ever, put anything in writing that you don't want to be used against you later.

Would you send this email to a co-worker?

quote:

I get this email back from her like 400 words telling me ("Let me clear, etc.), nobody should tell me what I have to do (I agree but she has been tight-fisted about controlling the project), that the professor assigned the email, etc. Basically, the biggest liberal snarky email I've encountered.

It actually sounds like she was tired of carrying your slack all semester. Considering you've admitted to that much, you probably should let it slide and be thankful she's going to be the reason you get a passing grade.
