It amazes me the number of drivers that tailgate people pulling a load

I had to move an excavator from one site to another yesterday. It was chained down well but I still can't stand people that drive as if the load behind me doesn't exist. Every time I tow something I am shocked at the number of people that tailgate me or cut me off and stop as if I can stop on a dime with the weight behind me. Electric brakes help but pulling something that heavy still builds up a lot of momentum once you get up to speed.
I had someone not hook a trailer up correctly one time and it came off the ball. The only reason the trailer didn't kill someone is the gooseneck hitch was inset in the flatbed like in the picture below and the hitch floated in the box. Thankfully it happened about 2 miles from my destination so it was easy to stop and call for help. Ever since that experience years ago, I double-check everything before taking off but also don't get too close behind anyone pulling anything.
Too many people don't secure their trailer loads properly, overload trailers, can't drive one well, have PoS trailers, etc. I never get close to anyone pulling anything and switch lanes if possible. Getting somewhere maybe a few minutes faster isn't worth the risk, people.

It's not just the coming undone. There are tons of other risks
The most common I bet is that many utility trailers don't have properly rated tires for the loads they are carrying. very dangerous.
I just don't trust anyone pulling anything.
It's just not worth the risk

It amazes me seeing some crappy little vehicle pulling two wrecked vehicles behind it on the interstate.

Seen too many dropping nails because they didn't bother to put a tarp down before doing that roofing job and were too cheap to get an onsite dumpster.

How about the RVs that don't require a CDL then they add a Jeep and a utility trailer behind them? They are like 60+ feet long with everything hooked up.

Yes. This was at a job in college when I was 19. Other guys hooked it up and I took off without checking. Learned a lesson and ever since then I check and double-check.

I keep waiting for my outboard motor to go through someone’s windshield. Tailgating + texting is going to end with a stainless prop to the face.

I was rear-ended twice last year. Both were at red lights at low speeds thankfully. Texting was the cause both times. Both were small cars that hit my drop hitch and did minimal damage to my truck but tore up their radiators and front end up.
It would suck for someone to run up under my equipment trailer.

Tailgating/following too closely is out of fricking control. I wish everyday I could drop my tailgate and have a minigun in the bed.
