If any of you have trouble suppressing your cishet and white privilege while reading this please tell me so I can help correct you.
ETA: And I know she lists 4 questions instead of 3 but consider it a freebie lol :D
quote:
I used to date this cis, hetero White guy – let’s call him Josh. Josh was as well-meaning as they came. Josh acknowledged that racism is a thing and that White privilege is real. In fact, he was so comfortable acknowledging his White privilege that he had seen more Spike Lee films than me.
quote:
And you’re probably wondering, “What’s wrong with that?” I mean, when you’re sexually attracted to someone, obviously you appreciate their physical characteristics. What’s so bad about finding certain characteristics attractive?
quote:
See, that’s the thing. Josh claimed to “love” Black women. But to say that one loves, or is attracted to, any Black woman suggests that one loves and is attracted to a person. However, when asked what draws him to Black women, Josh could only name stereotypical attitudes and body types. See the problem? Hair, skin, arse, “strength,” attitude and hips are not a person. They are attributes of a person.
quote:
Reducing a marginalized group or individual to a set of characteristics like personality, attitudes and body types is, in fact, racist – even if it’s meant to be a compliment.
quote:
Here are a few questions to ask yourself. They’ll help you assess whether or not your attraction to Black bodies contributes to oppression. 1. Are You Attracted to Black Women – Or Do You Fetishize Us? Sexualizing someone, or objectifying them, is not the same as attraction – and it’s important to know which one you’re doing. This is a difficult question to consider, especially since our racist, cissexist, heteropatriarchal social context makes it difficult to experience and express desire without harmful power dynamics.
quote:
2. Does Your Desire Affirm the Person’s Humanity – Or Is It Self-Serving for You? All right, this is another tough one, as it requires a bit more introspection regarding internal motives. Figuring out the impact of your actions is even more difficult if you have a hard time recognizing how power and privilege affect personal relationships.
quote:
3. Are You Treating the Woman You’re Attracted to Like a Person – Or an Accessory?
quote:
4. Do You Recognize Us as Full People – Or Reduce Our Worth to Body Parts and Sexuality?
quote:
And not having certain attributes commonly assigned to Blackness does not make a person any less Black. Reducing the definition of Blackness to body parts and features is objectifying and racist.

If you want to force 75% of America to stop reading 4 sentences in, this is how you do it. Bravo.

Is a lack of sexual desire for black people racist then?

Well, obviously.
Look, racism is sociopolitical, economic, and judicial system that is designed to suppress black people. That's a fact. White people, by culture, are racist. So, white people have to overcome a presumption of racism. #Woke. That's a high threshold, and it's most likely impossible.

I imagine a think tank of Harvard and Stanford educated white men writing these articles in a massive social experiment.

I mean seriously, for the random, open-minded person who happens to stumble upon your website and can get past the name EverydayFeminism.com, you've effectively lost them at this point. There is no conceivable way someone with an opposing viewpoint will make it any further, so unfortunately you'll have no one to keep you in check, and you'll carry on with this kind of BS completely oblivious to the fact that the vast majority of the world cannot handle your stupidity enough to even bother with a response.

I have a question for Breeshia.
Why isn't she in the kitchen making me a sammich?

Black dudes love fat white chicks. But I guess that's ok. Black people cant be racist. Or so I've been told.

I'm sure that being attracted to physically attractive women and fun/funny women and smart women crosses some PC line.

Breeshia Turner identifies as a queer, sex positive, Southern Baptist who loves all things sacred and profane. She received her BA in Comparative Studies in Race and Ethnicity, focus in Creative Writing from Stanford University, and is currently pursuing a dual Master’s in Divinity and Social Work at the University of Chicago. She is actively cultivating her practice as an intersectional feminist philosopher and theologian, exploring the intersections of art, BDSM and spirituality.
Um, because she's too busy sharing her brilliant mind with the world.

That's because you feel threatened by LGBT women of color.

Whether you agree with them or not, you really have to admit that the left has done an incredible job of controlling extremely liberal narratives. They create nonsensical terms and ideologies and ensure that they become ingrained in our culture and resistance to those terms or ideas is handled with the iron fist of "-isms".
Just think about it. If you're not attracted to black women, you're racist. If you're attracted to black women, you're racist. I mean, that's a pretty powerful way to tell an entire group of people they're giant POS's simply by being who they are and there's nothing they can do to remediate the problem.
