Empathy?

there is virtually none in America as we know it.

How many people do you know that have gone through the same struggles as poor inner city kids or starving children in the middle east, Africa, or India.

if you were talking about sympathy then that is a different topic.

Too little.

There is an overabundance of false empathy, mainly from the narcissistic (something we also have an overabundance of) who are concerned about how it will make them look.

Hard thing to quantify.

I'd probably say the world has a whole has consistantly trended towards more empathy and still does as we have become more civilized.

Even with our pc BS there is too little. Look at some of the truly fricked shite going in places on the globe. Some really horrible people in other cultures balance our overly empathetic culture.

too much in some ways and not enough in others.

There's too much empathy for people who are their own worst enemies, and not enough for people who are hurting through no fault of their own.

The issue IMO lies in the ability to relate. You can relate with someone who married the wrong person, got knocked up by accident, spent a little more than they earned, hung with the wrong crowd, etc....because that could have been you.

But say for instance someone exposed to harsh realities in a foreign land forcing migration.....why here, why don't they learn English, why are they taking my job, I need it dealing with this kid because his Daddy is in jail, and it was too late for my 5th abortion, and I don't make enough in food stamps to buy the gluten free bread that I need!

People underestimate how fricked up human civilization has been for 5000 years.

Things arent perfect now but they are better than ever.

shite the past 500 have been fricked up but have been the greatest jump and a bigger jump than the previous 11,500 years

the West (Renaiscance onward) is teh peak of human civilization and the best mindset/group of ideals that humans have ever devised

it's why i go out of my way to promote/defend Western values

Neither. Empathy today is simply misplaced.

Too little.

Empathy is the ability to understand or FEEL what another person feels.

The rich aren't empathetic of the poor and the poor aren't of the rich. It goes beyond class and race. No "side" is empathetic of the other. Otherwise these marches in the streets would stop about white oppression. I've never oppressed a minority in my life.

Empathy doesn't mean equality or welfare as Liberals think it is.

Well said. Now the west is under attack by internal and external forces and it's only being exacerbated by bleeding heart types
