Yes , it sucks. Wait until your kids start collage and move every other semester. Then your parents get old and your have to move 40 years of crap they stacked up.
I hate moving. Seems like I’m always doing it.

No one ever fully unpacks. My garage is full of boxes from my two most recent moves

The last two times I've moved, I said I would hire professional movers. But then once I actually priced it, the cheapness in me couldn't pull the trigger. So once again, I did it myself.

I will say this, however. Last time at the suggestion of my brother, I found some guys on Craigslist who could help me move for $50/hr. Best investment I ever made.
All it took was about 3 hours, and we had all the big stuff all moved into the new house. All that was left was a couple smaller miscellaneous boxes, and I could handle that myself.

Only way I'm hiring a moving company to do everything is once I'm too old and unable to do anything myself.

I’ve learned my lesson and am hiring movers next time.

Yep. I told myself last time we moved that I was never doing that again. I think we'll probably move one more time and I will pay someone to do it.

Not that I can think of.... it's life consuming, and feels like it never ends. Each room js worst than the last. And the worst of it is after you've packed for weeks and the chore is done.... you have to unpack and refind all your shite.

We've outgrown our house, but 6 years in and I'm still dreading packing

One reason I have been on a kick to sell and give away crap I can do without. We will probably be moving within a year or two and I am tired of lugging stuff around. Now I just need to get my wife to do the same.

It's amazing how much shite you accumulate in life, especially when you have a family. My wife and I are both pretty anti-clutter and don't mind throwing things away, but we still have tons of crap in this house.

Yes.

Going to the doctor for your scheduled penis cancer treatment.

That is a worse scheduled activity.

I'm about to do it again after Christmas and I'm dreading it.

Already spending more than expected, but I remember the last time I moved, so I'm going to pay up and hire a good mover.

Here's a tip for anyone moving in the future (too late for OP this time):

I got movers, but did the box packing myself rather than leave that to movers - I have too much fragile hobby stuff and misc stuff, and I needed to have things organized so I could get to stuff I'd need soon after moving, versus the stuff that could sit for a long while.

Assuming you are packing your own boxes, what I *wish* I had done is to take a phone pic or short video of the contents of each box, number the box, and put that number in the file name of the photo/video.

Wouldn't take much time, and it really could have helped on the unpacking side. I still have a few (fortunately inexpensive, easily replaced)items that have not shown up, and I've unpacked everything. It gets tricky, the moving company wants each box FULL (of items or packing material) so they can stack them in the truck w/o collapsing. So there was a lot of stuffing items inside other items, and stuffing unrelated items just to fill a space in the box.

Oh yea, I *hate* moving (but it's worse when you pack-rat for 29 years between moves!).

When I was at LSU, my girlfriend insisted on moving every semester. One semester, I realized she didn’t really have any skin in the game. On moving day, I parked my truck in the parking lot and told her to load everything she could lift into the truck and when she was done, I’d drive to her new apartment so she could unload. We repeated this for about 4 truckloads. When done, her and her roommate were exhausted.

They never moved again!

I look around my house and in my garage and realize that I have WAAAAAY to much shite. As I near retirement in 4 years, I'm going to start selling what's valuable and trashing/giving away what isn't. I have one last move in me.....from my 4-bedroom house in the 'burbs to my 1-bedroom condo at the lake. frick moving.

I had a dumpster delivered to the house before I moved. Filled it twice. It made a huge difference.
