I cant speak of the worst generation, as I havent studied all of them. One thing that a large majority of Boomers suck at is preparing for their life after work by living beneath their means and saving. Thats one reason why they dont quit working that hasnt been mentioned enough. They cant afford to do so through their own doing.

I saved like hell, to my wife's chagrin, to be able to retire early. I owe nothing and in very good shape.

The person who said the greatest generation screwed it all up was partially right. The boomers have a lot of screw ups too. The idea of throwing money you don't have at every little need is beyond stupid.

Social Security - FDRs baby. You guys need to freeze it. One should get out what they put in (plus interest). The Ponzi scheme has to end.

Medicare/Medicaid - There really is an age and a condition where it is stupid to spend 10s and 100s of thousands of dollars on a patient that will only live a couple more years or even just a couple more months. Those of you who have ever worked in a hospital know what I mean.

Mine thought i was crazy at first. Seven years into marriage, she is actually seeing the benefits relative to her friends.

Social Security just needs to be rewritten completely, since it was not intended to be what it has become. When Social Security was enacted, 67 was the life expectancy at the time, but now its closer to 80. If someone doesn't make it to that age, some sort of crap had to have gone down, and I'm guessing I'll likely make it to 90, barring major accidents of course.

This thread is typical of this whole site. Us vs Them. Stereotypes abound.

Yep. And there is no us without them.

There's no sense arguing with a tidal wave. At some point the reeds win out and the oaks tumble. That's the way of progress. I've had to shed some beliefs that were holding me back. Not an easy thing to do,
I know.

That's part of the problem with the current generation, which I'm part of BTW. Too many come out of college thinking they should immediately get the corner office job making 80K+ with all the perks instead of being willing to start at the bottom and paying their dues like every generation before, including the boomers.

I've seen a lot of the idiots in the corner office. I'm not impressed.

The hell with rewriting it. Terminate it. Not enough workers to support all those drawing from it. And it's gonna get worse. Don't see how SS can be sustained under any scenario. It hasn't been solvent in years and will never be. Time to make everyone take care of themselves. Gonna be some pissed off peeps like me who have paid into it. But I don't see any other way.

I don't know. The BBs screwed us financially, but at least a lot of them have a solid work ethic and aren't all pampered titty babies like my generation.

The reason for this is because there is no political will to make it so. As long as the Congress can rely on the senior vote to keep themselves in office, they will never lift a finger to fix SS. There are many things that could be done to improve the system, there is just no future for a pol in angering the constituency.

Well in actuality, most of these generational conflicts can be blamed on liberal entitlements ( pick one) and poor fiscal policies ( liberal and conservative IMO). Conservatives are no angels in this so I don't blame liberals completely. No one seems to have the balls to cut spending and it's destroying our country.
