With the trend today of people treating their pets like they are 4 legged kids only helps bolster the vets charging what they do since so many people will pay it.

This right here. It’s not a “fur baby” or whatever other crap. It’s a fricking dog. It doesn’t need to go to daycare. Most of the cancer treatments and knee replacements and other ridiculous crap people spend thousands on would be better cured with a .22.

Your opinion.

No doubt. That’s why I said it’s why I don’t have them, not that’s why no one should have them.

My girls want a dog but it would be me feeding, walking, and poop scoopin not them.

ETA I am not a “pet is a member of my family” type person and I’m sure that has a lot to do with it. Not knocking people who are, I’m just not one of them.

Bet you’re first one to cry when your dog is dying of some easily treated or preventable disease.

Some vets are ripoff places, but mechanics and AC repair companies are way worse.

It's no secret that there's rip-offs in every profession.

That is why when I find a good one who's honest, does a good job and asks for fair compensation, I'll use their services until they either retire or one of us dies.

My ol' lady got pet insurance for our puppy. I laughed and thought it was a waste of money. Premium is like $55 a month with a $250 deductible; everything beyond that is paid back at 80%.

Already got the deductible amount back and I'm sure he will just continue to get more expensive.

I worked with veterinarians years ago and their insurance was going up every year. There were multiple ones at the clinic and each billed differently. There was the one everyone loved (her hallway would be filled with Xmas presents and cards every year from clients). She would tell people alternatives to the $80 dog arthritis meds, and anti-anxiety meds, and was more conservative with ordering tests and X-rays.

The old guy would order a bit more tests right off, for many of the pets that came in sick. There are some that absolutely love animals and won’t do anything that’s not absolutely necessary, but you have to find them. They’re probably also making a lot less money.

With my low income, I guess I shouldn’t have two dogs, but I can’t imagine being without both of them. It’s best to shop around for vets.

Vets do tend to get away with scams because people are easily manipulated.

"We did a blood test."
That'll be $100.

"Oh, hey, we suspect your dog has something going on. We need to do another blood test."

What do you suspect?

"Bleeding disorder."

So you want to stick him again in a different place to draw more blood for a so-called bleeding disorder when the original site isn't bleeding.

Should you do the test a third time to be extra sure? Maybe, just drain all of his blood and give it back to really be sure.

Vets piss me off. They are well-known scammers.

My former physician was like this. I honestly think she was a literal retard and had to run through a million tests or send you to specialists, when you already know what the frick is wrong with you.

She "retired" thank god.

If you stuck with her, then that's your fault. I've changed Drs. when I thought they were milking the system with test after test, especially since I'm now retired and on Medicare.

Absolutely not, thats how health care works in this town. If you aren't "born" into a clinic, youre going to wait a long time and then you'll take who they assign to you.

I've changed doctors three times, its a major ordeal in this town. Once youre in a clinic, your only other immediate choice is the urgent care.

That’s exactly my point. Of course I get sad when a good dog’s time is up. But I’m not a fricking woman or gen Z bitch so I don’t make decisions, especially financial ones, based on my emotions.
