Is pretty much all furniture just straight up overpriced junk nowadays?

Bought a new sofa about 3 months ago. Nothing crazy. Small sofa and paid about $1200 for about 6 ft. It was still in the box when I got it in my place. 3 months later, it’s completely broken and disconnected in every internal 1/10th inch piece of wood it’s skeleton is built with. Junk.

ETA: This junk is going outside to the curb. Pleather/Leather recs to replace with are appreciated.

That’s on the cheap side for a sofa. Plus most be don’t understand that you shouldn’t plop yourself down on a sofa or furniture in general. If you’re heavy, you’ll break it

Good furniture is forking expensive now. We just ordered a new couch and I’m still pissed at the price. Also pissed that it’s going to be 3 more months before we even get it.

There are decent brands. When I delivered furniture the best made mass produced brand I delivered was Restoration Hardware.

Ethan Allen was ok. But don't fall for the American Made tag line. everything is made overseas, they just assemble it here so they can call it American Made. Plus, some of their wood choices were hit and miss.

For sure. I bought a $700 couch a couple years ago and it was pure junk. You can tell by how light this new furniture is. Crap materials

My parents have a 30+ year old couch in their basement they bought for peanuts when they got married and it’s way more comfortable than any new piece I’ve sat on.

Honestly if I ever need to buy furniture in the future I will probably look around for estate sales. I’ve seen some really nice stuff at those sales.

Was it actually an Ethan Allen couch? lol

Seriously, go to Restoration Hardware. Really well made stuff.

edit: as billjamin said below me, Pottery Barn is good too.

My wife handles all that but she usually sticks to pottery barn or something on that level. The one we just ordered was from there and we have a sleeper sofa upstairs that’s about 10 years old from them and is still like brand new. There’s better custom or small shop stuff, but from the bigger stores they’re probably one of the better options.

Buying a couch is a shitty process regardless of where you buy it. But you need to spend at least $2k to get even a decent couch these days. It’s ridiculous.
