If you're still looking at immersion schools, then usually the earlier they start the better, although my girls picked up the languages fine starting in pre-K/Kindergarten. (Apologies if I'm confusing you with another poster and you have no idea what I'm talking about!)

One other advantage to starting a regular school that early is that the pre-K 3 and 4 classes often feed into the Kindergarten classes, so if you're looking at a school with a high demand or waiting list for their Kindergarten classes, see if starting them at the school earlier would guarantee them a K spot.

But if you're happy with the daycare, and these things aren't a consideration, stay put. Most quality daycares do teach them basics through play, and as someone above pointed out, you won't have to worry about finding someone to care for them during school vacations.

I'm putting my 2 year old in a 2 year old program at a catholic elementary school starting this fall. It's M/W/F 8:30-12:00. You can do 8:30-2:30, but "nap time" is from 12:00-2:00, so I figured it was a waste. He'll have to wear the school uniform, and there is a structured curriculum each day.

I'm doing it mainly for the social interaction. He's been staying with my MIL during the day since he was born. I think he'll learn something as well, but I also realize there's plenty of time for that.

No it's not! All it is is day car with a little bit of learning. My oldest is almost 6. She was reading by 4. We are glad we did pre-k3.
