The only part of it that's worth it is they can unlock your vehicle from outer space if you lock your keys in it.

Don't forget the safety net of collision detection and the immediate sending of medical care if you are incapacitated.

They should just get the fobs like Nissan/Infiniti have. Can't lock your keys in the car.

You get some free shite for 5 years. Diagnostic reports, unlock/start your car from app, and tracking for insurance discounts. Not really sure why people would pay for the mobile hot spot at those prices though

hot spot? wtf are you talking about?

have you used a mobile device in the last 5 years?

The vehicle has wifi. Works just like a wifi router but you have to purchase a data plan to use it. I guess if you had a couple kids with iPads without cellular plans that wanted to watch movies they just connect to the car's wifi.

Kids used up all of the data on the way to Lake Tahoe this weekend and ran out half way back.

It's only $10/mo to add it as a line in a mobile share plan. Cheaper than buying their data packages or getting cell service for each device.

Keep in mind that even after the service is killed off, the phone app still will copy your keyfob. Remote start, lock, etc still work.

I've had it on 7 GM vehicles I've bought over the years.
Never bothered to renew it. It came in handy with a tranny issue on an Acadia but beyond that nothing much.
My most recent purchases have it "free" for 1 year.
The only benefit of the data service is that it can transmit at higher power and (theoretically) have better coverage.
But there is now way to determine how much signal you have at any time. Perhaps there's a hack for that.

You're better off buying an extra line with your carrier and getting a hotspot.

I let mine expire over a year ago and the app on my iphone will still send maps to my gps and work as my key fob. I heard it stays active for 5 years after you let the service expire.

I mocked everyone I knew that had this and continued paying for it. Then I got a new truck that had it. It was very convenient because it allowed you to update your phone when certain updates required wifi and the antenna was SO much better than my phone. Almost always worked. However, I it wasn't that great to where I kept it and I haven't missed it. All it did was make me judge friends and family that kept it a little less.

Probably could be if you are often in very remote places with no cell towers around. Other than that, I don't see it.

I travel a lot and very rarely use mine. The auto response in wreck situations have saved a lot of life. If not for my travel I don't think it would be worth the extra money.

OnStar is worth it only if you have a Karl Malone flip phone.
