Mexican isn't deragatory if you are using it correctly. If you are using it to refer to hispanics in the US as a general term it's not really deragatory but it makes you stupid.

Why was the fact that they are Mexicans relevant to the conversation? Could it be that you instantly associate Mexicans with manual labor? Would it not be better to say that you know a couple of guys who could do the project in question? Hmmmm?

If someone already has not told you to stop hanging out with pussies, do so.

I mean if somebody calls me a mexican, I usually correct them and say.. I am actually from Honduras gringo.

I don't really get bent out of shape about it.

In Honduras we call any caucasian gringo...even if they are british, australian...whatever so I understand.

yea, I think it mostly depends on how the person actually says it.

often its just a lazy but innocent descriptor.

Mexican is a nationality. Shocking, I know.

If they aren't from Mexico, then they aren't Mexican.

Tough concept, but maybe make a couple flashcards and you'll get it eventually.

Weird considering they're so "proud" of their heritage.

I was once chastised at a hippy breakfast spot in Little Rock for ordering a Mexican Coke. I asked the lady if she had an alternative name for a Coke that was made in Mexico. She couldn't respond, so I politely told her that the Cokes behind her were Mexican. The Hispanic guy behind me thought this was hilarious and asked for one of what the gringo was having.

Mexicans don't mind, however, hispanics that aren't mexican do get pissed. My father is Salvadorean, his side of the family freaking hates being called mexicans

However, it might not always be necessary to state the ethnicity of the people because it's probably not relevant at all to the story.

Many times it adds context. Many (not always).
