I was in Barnes & Noble today and saw a book which purports to be a treatise on college hookup culture and social media hookups, and what it means for the future marriageability of millenials.

I didn't buy it, but this is stuff we all know, as we see it happening all around us. I don't think gay marriage has much to do with cheapening the institution. I think millenials simply have no interest in the institution. Are we entering a post-marriage epoch of history?

It should be. Divorce laws need to updated though. No adult needs to be supported post divorce.

Millenials will grow up and get married. Not at the same rate as past generations, but hopefully they won't divorce at the same rate either. Millenials aren't the ones breaking tradition, the 50% divorce rate of their parents' generation did that

this. BS that someone(women) can decide they're no longer happy, take have of your crap you already have and what else you'll make even after.

There are plenty of millennials that still value marriage. The OT is just warped.

Marriage isn't dead. It might be in a down cycle but like all things cyclical, it will trend up. No different than liberalism, conservatism, secularism or spiritualism. It all trends.
I think people have a tendency to look at things in relation to their own existence and not from a historical perspective. marriage may evolve, but it won't go extinct.

It's necessary because marriage is a contrived institution derived from the contrived religion that created it. The future of relationships is spiritual partnerships devoid of the selfishness and childishness that you see in most marriages today. And no legal contracts to contend with either.

The millenials will grow up sooner or later and get married, have kids, etc.

If the hippies from the 60's did, the millenials will for damn sure.

Marriage is a one sided contract completely in favor of the woman

A woman is rewarded by divorcing and has incentive to do so

A man is not rewarded and has no incentive to do so

The man gets more. I'm a man (and the breadwinner) but before I got married I was well aware of the fact that what I make as a married man is "our" (my wife and I) money/stuff. If I wanted to keep all my shite and her shite separate then there is no reason to get married. If you think your going to get robbed by a woman through divorce the solution is quite simple. Don't get married.

I believe each side should walk away with half of what they acquired during the marriage and the only sort of post-marriage support I support (and I do so adamantly) is child support. If you don't want to support children, the (A) your a shitty parent, and (B) you should have never had kids in the first place.

Marriage? I'm just trying to focus on finding a woman who will voluntarily be seen in public with me.

I plan on getting married, but will not if the chick can't commit to never getting divorced (unless one of us cheats). There needs to be a "if I divorce him, I get 3 years in jail" document that they need to sign
