Oh, I gotcha.

Just an FYI...Green agave is used to make Mezcal.

Tequila, vodka, gin, scotch, etc on the shelf at your local liquor store are all roughly 60% water.

Thank God. Not sure I want to drink 200 Proof anything.

No shite, because almost all of them started off as everclear.

Got to be 100% agave or its a no go!

Kirkland's store brand is awesome. But I can't find it on the shelves here.

Cazadores is a much better sub-$20 tequila than Cuervo.

Which is every agave but blue pretty much. Mezcal comes from a variety of different agave plants whereas tequila is specific to blue agave.

Mezcal is delicious.

My Dad said when he was in the Army (Korea vet), they would obtain (steal) 180 proof medicinal alcohol, and cut it 50/50 with grapefruit juice from their rations.

Went to a Tequila tasting at our resort in Mexico and they had some Mezcal that was better than a most of the tequilas. I wish I had bought a bottle. I ended up buying a bottle of Clase Azul Reposado, which was my favorite of the tequilas they had.

Mezcal is not tequila and is firewater

Clase Azul is pretty good but pricey. I have drank a bottle or two of it.

To be tequila, it only needs to contain 5% agave. Jose Cuervo Gold is mostly neutral grain spirits (everclear) water and 5% agave.

Don't buy tequila that isn't 100% agave. Souza Hornitos is one of the cheaper ones and it's 100%.

My rule of thumb is buy the cheapest that says "100% de agave".

Its a good rule of thumb if you dont know what you are buying. There are some cheap tequilas that are good but most of the cheap ones suck and will make you feel like road kill which is why so many people talk shite on tequila. They get smashed on Jose cuervo or some $20 bottle and feel like arse the next day

Tequila like most alcohol's have multiple uses. White tequila is good for mixers and Reposado and Anejo is good for sipping and mixers as well...

The good tequilas are made from 100% agave which is why they are more expensive. The plants dont really mature until they are 6 or 7 years old and only grow in a little higher altitude in Mexico. The harvest is expensive as well.

a Few brands to try that you can find most places

My goto for almost everything. A little pricey but worth it

Avion silver is very good for making drinks and is pretty cheap compared to some. Its not bad and usually found anywhere

El moyor is very very good and is also cheap. Its just hard to find. If you see it, buy a bottle and try it

The 1942 is known as one of the best mass produced tequilas. I have a bottle and like it but for the money, the Julio Reposado is just as good. 1942 is very popular with the Mexican restaurants because they will mix you a $20 margarita with it. You wont know much difference except being broke
