I'm a VICE fan. Someone mentioned it earlier, but Maher bankrolled them bigtime and a lot of the wind underneath their sails lately-the stuff that's allowed them to really expand what they're doing-is based on his $ that he threw behind them.
I found their piece on the India/Pakistan conflict to be fascinating. Their climate change piece was also able to completely eradicate all doubt from my mind that it's real. Their delivery-that whatever you believe, we're going to go up there and show you evidence and what the scientists are doing to collect the data and report it-was fantastic. They put a camera and frank, honest explanations behind the endless statistics and data points you hear spouted by folks on all sides.
For me, that one in particular proved to me their worth in the current landscape of contemporary journalism. They basically gave it to you straight-climate change is real, no matter if it's natural or man-made-and at this point we need to be focused on how to mitigate its consequences on coastal communities worldwide since science is telling us there's almost literally no way we can stop it at this point.
But they've done stuff on North Korea/South Korea border jumping, gun control, etc. Just fantastic stuff.
I may have to give Oliver another try. I tuned in the week after the SCOTUS ruling on SSM and he appeared to be a total shill for the Left just attacking the right relentlessly. He went so far as to defend a 7 year old boy's right to go to the girl's bathroom at school and had such zeal behind it I thought he was a complete cook.
Definitely turned me off, but I admit that one episode is too small of a sample size to truly draw an opinion off of.

This is whats wrong with America on multiple levels.
a) the American media is so shitty that this topic is even brought up
b) that people actually consider Oliver, Stewart, Colbert et al as "journalists".

We shouldn't even call our current media journalists. These guys have a different delivery but at least they cover topics that have real impact. The others are more concerned with political agendas and celebrities.
