This isn't a topic that I think would work on the MTV or poli boards. Think it'll have a better discussion here.

The guy has covered everything from Snowden to the food problem in America and he does it honestly, thoroughly, and without much poltical bias.

Last week tonight packs more news and more important information into 30 minutes than Fox, CNN, and MSNBC combined in a month.

I wouldn't go that far, but he can be somewhat entertaining.

Right yes chap. A British comic is the best "journalista" in America. And The Daily Show is real news coverage too.

Name a better one.

I'll wait.

And he is a comedian, yes. He's also a stellar journalist.

I think so, but that's more of an insult to how low journalism has sank than a compliment to him. He's the only guy who actually gives a frick about actual issues that don't get the ratings and doesn't partake in pointless fear mongering that every other news organization/show has taken up.

Oliver is brilliant and he really brings to the limelight actual news people don't hear about, and he knows how to very effectively communicate it to make me give a shite. His interview with Snowden and the dick pics was fricking brilliant, and I think if everyone watched his interview with him, almost everyone would start giving a shite about government surveillance. And that's just one story, and he tends to be brilliant weekly. I really think it will go down as the best satirical news program of all time when it's all said and done.

I'd rather it go down as the best news program and the entire lineup of fox and CNN go down as the absolute shittiest excuses for journalism or information sharing in the history of the world.

It's ridiculous to me that people don't watch his show and they just naturally assume he's Pierce Morgan. Oliver was interviewed by Howard Stern and Oliver said he can't stand Pierce Morgan, that he has a ridiculous "holier-than-thou" attitude, and really doesn't understand the American mindset. Watch Oliver's interview with Edward Snowden, and I think it's clear that not only does he understand the American mindset, but understands it more than just about anyone, myself included.

The guy is brilliant at boiling down the issues to their most basic forms and makes me give a shite about seemingly boring issues. Oliver is pretty much the anti-media guy and media at large's biggest critic. You can tell how insane the media drives him week after week, and it's not Fox News that he's targeting like every other bottom feeder. Oliver knows that media these days is run by Ron Burgundy and simply talk about things that will produce ratings and not accept any blame for their irresponsibility. Oliver is determined to actually bring up issues that the media are irresponsible for not reporting. Yes they are boring on the surface and they don't produce the ratings, but Oliver knows that the public needs to be made aware of the boring issues, or else this country will go straight to hell while the media, government, and corporations laugh their arse off on the way to the bank while ripping the general population a new a-hole.

It's pretty fair to say that every informative segment he does is left-leaning, typically bashing Republican policies in a subtle way. That said, his show is very enjoyable and many folks can learn a lot by watching it.

Hmmm.

Because of how absolutely pathetic the actual truth is or because it's me?

He's done an equal amount of calling out Obama and the democratic senators.

He ha some bias, but he generally present both sides of the issue

Ummm, no it's not. He goes after both sides pretty equally and very rarely brings up political parties. I can't think of many times it's a clear conservative bashing. I just read through all his main subjects, and I think only like 4 or 5 of them are clearly against what most Republicans think is right instead of completely bipartisan issues, which is what is 90% of his issues.

Yeah, for things like continuing the interrogation program, which everyone knows ultimately ties back to Bush and Cheney. Almost anytime the show a member of Congress saying something stupid, it's a Republican.

As time has gone on, I'll say that the show certainly is balanced, but he had to mimic the Daily Show in some way to secure that demographic.

I really haven't noticed one way or the other all that much. He's gone after plenty of democrats. I don't think Oliver really gives a frick about the party system and thinks it's bullshite, especially since he didn't grow up in this country and can't vote. If he was as bad as you are implying, he'd do nothing but go after Fox News like everyone else does, but he's clearly just pissed off with the media at large and not just Fox News.
